Women's Tennis Tops St. John's for Spot in BIG EAST Championship Match

CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier women's tennis will play for a third-straight BIG EAST Championship on Sunday after taking a 4-1 win over St. John's in the Semifinals on Saturday morning.
Xavier, now 13-7 on the season, will face No. 3 seed Creighton at 9:00 a.m. on FloSports for the program's fourth overall league title. The Bluejays, now 17-7 on the season, earned a spot in the title match after erasing a 3-0 deficit against DePaul in the Semifinals for the 4-3 win. This marks Creighton's first appearance in the BIG EAST Championship match.
The Musketeers and the Bluejays last faced off in 2019, a 6-1 win for Xavier in Orlando, Fla. Since joining the conference, Xavier has a 5-0 record against Creighton.
This marks the seventh time in the nine tournaments held that Xavier has played in the BIG EAST Championship match. The Musketeers have advanced to at least the Semifinal round each season since Xavier joined the BIG EAST for the 2013-14 season.

Xavier took the 1-0 lead on the doubles point, with Kat Lyman and Abby Nugent taking the No. 1 court, 6-2, the pair's 10th doubles win of the season. Blessing Nwaozuzu and Paulina Franco Martinessi clinched the point with a 6-3 win on No. 3, moving the pair to 3-0 on the season in doubles. Imani Graham and Anna Roggenburk led 5-3 on No. 2 when the point was decided.
Imani Graham made it a 2-0 Xavier lead with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on No. 1, her sixth-straight singles win and 13th of the dual season.
Kat Lyman took a 6-3, 7-5 win on No. 2, her ninth singles win of the season, to make it a 3-0 Xavier lead.
St. John's picked up a point on No. 6, a 7-5, 7-5 win against Blessing Nwaozuzu.
After falling in the first set, Anna Roggenburk posted the 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 win on the No. 4 court to clinch the win for Xavier at 4-1.
Abby Nugent led in the third set on No. 3, 4-6, 6-1, 5-2, and Abigail Siminski was in a third set on No. 5, 6-2, 4-6, 1-2, when the match was decided.
