Women's Tennis Wins Third-Straight BIG EAST Championship

CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier women's tennis used a dominating performance in the championship match to secure its third-straight BIG EAST title, topping No. 3 Creighton, 4-0, on Sunday morning at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center. The title is Xavier's fourth BIG EAST Championship overall, winning the league tournament in 2022, 2021 and 2016. Â
Anna Roggenburk was named Most Outstanding Player, earning the accolade for the second time in her Xavier career, also earning the honor in 2021. Playing at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles, Roggenburk was undefeated throughout the weekend, going 3-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles with Imani Graham.Â

Xavier took the doubles in all three matches during the tournament, including the claiming the point against the Bluejays despite falling on the third court in the finals, picking up victories on the first and second court to move ahead 1-0. The Musketeers claimed the title on a trio of straight-set singles victories.
With the win, the Musketeers, now 14-7 on the season, earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, Xavier's fourth appearance in the national tournament. The Musketeers await the NCAA Championship Selection Show, set for Monday, May 1, at 6:00 PM on NCAA.com.

Creighton took the first doubles decision, taking a 6-0 win on No. 3 against Blessing Nwaozuzu and Paulina Franco Martinessi. Anna Roggenburk and Imani Graham took court No. 2, 6-2, the ninth win of the dual season for the pair. Kat Lyman and Abby Nugent claimed the point for the Musketeers, taking the No. 1 court, 6-3, their 11th win of the dual season.
In singles play, Xavier took the first set on five of six courts, claiming the win on three-straight set wins. Anna Roggenburk took the No. 4 court, 6-3, 6-1, her fifth-straight singles win.
Abigail Siminski made it a 3-0 Xavier lead, taking the No. 5 court, 6-4, 6-1, her fourth-straight win and ninth of her freshman season.
Kat Lyman clinched the match on court No. 2, taking the 6-3, 6-2 win, her 10th of the season, to set the final score at 4-0 in favor of the Musketeers.
When the match was decided, Abby Nugent led on No. 3 (6-4, 4-4) and Blessing Nwaozuzu had a 6-3, 5-2 lead on No. 6, while Creighton's Malvika Shukla led Imani Graham, 6-4, 4-3, on No. 1.
