Baseball Completes Sweep at Villanova with 9-3 Win

Musketeers return home to host Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Xavier completed the three-game series sweep at Villanova on Sunday, taking a 9-3 win to move to 25-15 overall. Xavier now stands at 7-2 in BIG EAST play, sitting on top of the BIG EAST standings after the weekend.
Xavier took control early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the second, with Jared Cushing and Matthew DePrey each driving in a pair of RBIs in the inning. The Musketeers added a run in the third after Matt McCormick doubled to get aboard and came home on an RBI triple from Jared Cushing.
Villanova got on the board with a run in the sixth, but the Musketeers responded in the next frame with three runs, using five walks and two hits to extend the lead to 9-1, with Hendrickson and Cushing each picking up an RBI.
The Wildcats threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with no outs. VU scored a pair before Connor Bailey entered to get the final out, setting the final score at 9-3.
Xavier returns home for the first of four-straight home games, hosting Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m. The Musketeers remain home to host Seton Hall for three games next weekend.
