Rubber match between Musketeers and Hoyas set for 1 PM start on Saturday at Hayden Field

CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball fell in game two with Georgetown, 11-5, on Friday afternoon at Hayden Field, evening the series at one game apiece. The Musketeers moved to 34-21 overall and 14-6 in BIG EAST play, currently sitting in second place in the league standings.

Xavier took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run from Matthew DePrey. The Musketeers held the advantage into the third, where the Hoyas scored a pair to move in front, 2-1. The Hoyas added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to build the GU lead out to 11-1.

The 10-run lead held into the bottom of the seventh, when Xavier posted four runs on three hits. Andrew Walker led off the inning with a single and Garrett Schultz got aboard after being hit by a pitch. Connor Misch hit an RBI single through the left side to score Walker and move Schultz to third. After Carter Hendrickson took a two-out walk to load the bases, Grant Stephenson hit a three-RBI double to set the score at 11-5.

Xavier sits in second place in the BIG EAST standings, with a .700 conference winning percentage at 14-6, trailing UConn, which stands at 13-5 with a .722 winning percentage. The Huskies have two games remaining, facing Creighton on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. ET before wrapping up the series with the Bluejays on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

The Musketeers and the Hoyas wrap up the series and the regular season at Hayden Field on Saturday, May 20, set for a 1:00 p.m. start. Xavier will celebrate Senior Day prior to first pitch.

ON THE MOUND

Ethan Bosacker made the start, allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits, with three strikeouts and two walks in 3.1 innings of work.
Jack Niedringhaus entered with two on and one out in the fourth, going 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, with one strikeout and one walk.
Connor Bailey entered for the sixth, allowing three runs on two hits in 0.2 innings.
Luke Bell came in for the final out of the sixth, striking out the only batter he faced.
Nick Boyle came in for the seventh, pitching a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.
Creighton Hansen pitched 2.0 scoreless innings to close out the game, allowing just one baserunner, on a walk.

AT THE PLATE

Grant Stephenson went 2-4, driving in three RBIs on a double in the seventh inning.
Matthew DePrey hit his 13th home run of the season, a solo shot in the first inning. He finished 1-4 with and RBI and a run scored.
Connor Misch (1-4) finished with an RBI and a run scored.
Andrew Walker went 2-3 with a walk, scoring a run.
Garrett Schultz went 1-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Carter Hendrickson got aboard with a walk, scoring a run.
Jack Housinger broke the school record for career at-bats in the ninth inning. He now has 834 at-bats for his Xavier career, breaking the previous school record of 833 held by Drew Schmidt (2007-10).
