Volleyball Picks Up First Win Against Indiana State

The Musketeers defeated the Sycamores 3-1 in the opening day of the 2023 season
CINCINNATI - Xavier volleyball defeated Indiana State in a four-set match 3-1 (25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 25-17) to open the 2023 season. The two teams had not faced each other since 1991.
The Musketeers start the season at 1-0 (0-0 BIG EAST) while the Sycamores continue on at 0-1 (0-0 MVC).
• Emma Grace led the squad in kills with a total of 17 and hit for .250 in the match averaging 4.5 kills per set. The junior outside hitter also recorded 22 receptions, 12 digs, and one block assist.
• Senior middle blocker Delaney Hogan and redshirt sophomore outside hitter Anna Taylor each posted 13 kills against the Sycamores while sophomore outside hitter hitter Caroline Speelman earned a career-high 11 kills.
• Along with her career high in kills, Speelman posted the game-high of two block solos and added one block assist, which were also her first career blocks.
• Carrigan O'Reilly added an additional 49 assists to her career total of 3,410 while also tallying seven kills, one service ace, and 16 digs for a double-double. The graduate setter recorded the game high in assists and was the only Musketeer to record a service ace.
• Senior libero Stevie Wolf earned the team-high of 22 digs with 10 receptions and six assists.
• Redshirt junior Sarah Stevens made her first career appearance as a Musketeer and tallied one block solo, one block assist, and five kills for a .364 hitting percentage in her debut.
• Freshman libero/defensive specialist Elouise Czajkowski made her first career appearance with three digs, seven receptions, and one assist.
• The Musketeers totaled 67 kills, 65 assists, three block solos, and four block assists in the 3-1 victory.
Xavier will face rival Cincinnati in day two of the Tribute to #10 Tournament at 6 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 26.
