Musketeers and Cards set to get underway at 12 PM

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis goes back out on the road for a midweek match on Wednesday, traveling to the University of Louisville to face the Cardinals on January 17 at 12 p.m.

The Musketeers are 0-1 after opening the season last weekend at EKU, coming back to tie the match at 3-3 before falling to the Colonels, 4-3.

OPPONENT INFO

This is the first match of the spring schedule for Louisville.
The Cardinals went 17-12 overall last season and 6-6 in ACC play. UofL topped Notre Dame 4-3 to open ACC Tournament play before falling to Duke. In the NCAA Championship, the Cards advanced with a 4-3 win over Texas Tech before falling to No. 3 Ohio State.
Louisville took a 4-0 win in the last match-up in 2022.

LAST TIME OUT

After falling behind 3-1, Xavier men's tennis came back to tie Eastern Kentucky at 3-3, but fell to the Colonels, 4-3, in the Musketeers' spring opener.
In doubles play, the Colonels took a 6-3 win over Ryan Cahill and Charlie Temming on the No. 1 court, and secured the point with a 6-3 win against Marco Pennelli and Jorge Santamaria on the No. 3 court.
EKU made it a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Kyle Totorica on the No. 4 court.
Charlie Temming cut the Colonels' advantage in half, 2-1, with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 win on the No. 2 court.
EKU extended its lead back to two with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win on the No. 3 court against Marco Pennelli.
The Musketeers took back-to-back decisions to tie it up at 3-3, with Ryan Cahill taking the 3-6, 6-3 7-6 (5) win on the No. 1 court and Cristian Gonzalez taking the No. 5 court, 6-2, 6-4.
On No. 6, EKU clinched the match with a win over Jorge Santamaria, 6-3, 6-3 .

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Xavier returns to action on Sunday, January 21, traveling to Ohio State for a 2:30 p.m. match.

THE MUSKETEERS

Xavier returns six letterwinners from last year's squad that finished the season at 12-9 overall.
The 2022-23 season marked a second-straight season with 12 wins, the first time the program had back-to-back 10-plus win season since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
The Musketeer returners include Ryan Cahill, Pascal Mosberger, Marco Pennelli, Jorge Santamaria, Charlie Temming and Kyle Totorica.
Xavier also added a pair of freshmen, Alex Adamec and Cristian Gonzalez.
