Women's Tennis Falls at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Xavier women's tennis fell 7-0 to Purdue on Sunday afternoon in West Lafayette, moving to 1-1 on the season.

Xavier returns to Cincinnati to host a pair of matches at Eastern Hills next weekend, starting with Yale on Friday, January 26 at 4:00 PM. The Musketeers wrap up the weekend on Saturday, Jan. 27 against Toledo at 4:30 PM at Eastern Hills.

THE MATCH

In doubles, Purdue took the No. 1 court, 6-0, against Imani Graham and Anna Roggenburk, then clinched the point with a 6-4 win on No. 3, against Blessing Nwaozuzu and Abigail Siminski. Emily Flowers and Sofia Mazzucato were tied 5-5 on No. 2 when the point was decided.

The Boilermakers picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win against Siminski on the No. 3 court, and a 6-3, 6-4 win against Roggenburk on the No. 2 court to move ahead 3-0 and then clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win on No. 5 against Flowers.

After the match was decided, Purdue picked up a point on the No. 6 court, 6-4, 6-3 against Ellie Brotherton. On No. 1, Graham came back to force a third set, falling 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (15). On No. 4, Mazzucato took the first set before falling in three, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (4).
