
Swimming Heads to Butler Invite on Sunday

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming heads to Fishers, Ind. on Sunday, January 28, to take part in the Butler Invite.
Xavier competes in the final dual of the season at Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m.

- Xavier will be one of eight schools competing, including hosts Butler, Valparaiso, Youngstown State, UIndy, Eastern Ill., Lewis and Ball State.
- At last season's meet, Xavier picked up four event wins, with the women winning three events and the men collecting an event win. Both team finished in second place.
LAST TIME OUT - MEN
- The Musketeer men won six of 11 events in Saturday's meet against Bellarmine, winning with a score of 117-87.
- Gage Hannewyk, Ethan Saunders, Aiden Leamer and Kyle Hudson set a time of 3:26.13 in the 400 medley relay to take first.
- Luke Peterson set a time of 9:47.21 to win the 1000 free.
- CJ Sorensen set a time of 1:47.64 in the 200 free to place third.
- Kyle Hudson placed second in the 50 free with a time of 21.64.
- Jack Parker led Xavier in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.40 to place second.
- Caleb Petranchuk led the Musketeers in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.31, placing second.
- Ethan Saunders took first in the 100 free with a time of 47.49.
- Matt Fralic led Xavier with a second-place finish in the 200 back, setting a time of 1:56.62.
- Ryan Knipp won the 500 free with a time of 4:41.22.
- Brayden Mandacina won the 200 breast, setting a time of 2:08.74.
- Caleb Petranchuk, Colin Jordan, T'Lez Foulkes and Nathan Wall closed out the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:27.13.
LAST TIME OUT - WOMEN
- Xavier's women won nine of the 11 events on the women's side against Bellarmine, taking the 156-46 win.
- Kali Fischer, Emma Amon, Erin Ritz and Olivia Oyster set a time of 3:53.11 in the 400 medley relay to take the top spot. Xavier took the top four spots in the race.
- Clara Keiser won the 1000 free with a time of 10:45.87.
- Olivia Oyster set a time of 1:55.49 to win the 200 free.
- Molly Dynda led three Musketeers in the top three of the 50 free with a time of 24.99.
- Kate Lair led Xavier in the 400 IM with a time of 4:39.14, placing second.
- Erin Ritz won the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.67.
- Kali Fischer took the top spot in the 100 free with a time of 53.16.
- Amy Van Son set a time of 2:09.04 in the 200 back to take first.
- Mary Sweetman took first in the 500 free with a time of 5:15.13.
- Ally Zaleski led Xavier in the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.74 to place second.
- Alexis Worrall, Kali Fischer, Reese Turner and Olivia Oyster set a time of 1:36.62 to win the 200 free relay.
WEEKLY AWARDS
- A pair of Musketeers picked up BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors this week, with Kali Fischer picking up the honor on the women's side and Luke Peterson earning the honor on the men's side.
- Fischer, a senior from Eagan, Minn., collected three top-two results in individual events over the weekend, including a first-place finish in the 200 free at Cincinnati with the fastest time in the BIG EAST this week (1:52.03). She also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 back at UC, setting a time of 2:05.20.
- Against Bellarmine, the senior won the 100 free, touching the wall in 53.16. Fischer also helped Xavier to a first-place finish in the 200 free relay and a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay against Cincinnati, and first-place finishes in the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay against Bellarmine.
- Peterson, a freshman from  San Antonio, Texas, led Xavier in distance freestyle, picking up a first and second place finish through two meets over the weekend. In Friday's meet at Cincinnati, Peterson took second in the 500 free (4:40.50).
- He followed that performance with a first-place finish in the 1000 free against Bellarmine on Saturday, touching the wall in 9:47.21. Peterson also set times of 48.08 in the 100 free and 1:46.11 in the 200 free over the weekend.
XAVIER MEN
- The Xavier men placed second at last season's BIG EAST meet, winning seven events with 10 Musketeers earning All-Conference, led by BIG EAST Most Outstanding Swimmer Andrew Martin.
- The Musketeers return eight All-Conference performers who helped Xavier to seven event wins and a narrow second-place finish. Ethan Saunders led the returnees, earning All-BIG EAST in five events, and Matthew Adanin, Michael Benington, Gage Hannewyk, Kyle Hudson, Aiden Leamer, Jack Parker and Nathan Wall were also named to the all-conference team.
- Xavier also returns an additional six letter winners from last year's squad.
- The Musketeers added nine newcomers to the roster for the 2023-24 season.
XAVIER WOMEN
- The Xavier women are coming off a fourth-place finish at last season's BIG EAST Championships, returning four Musketeers who earned All-BIG EAST honors, Kali Fischer, Erin Ritz, Olivia Oyster and Clara Keiser.
- The women's roster included 15 letter winners from last season.
- Xavier added six newcomers to the roster for the 2023-24 season.
