Xavier Tops Texas Southern in Season Opener

The Musketeers defeated the Tigers, 78-69, on Monday Night at Cintas Center
CINCINNATI - Four Musketeers reached double figures on Monday night as Xavier opened the 2024-25 season with a 78-69 win over Texas Southern. Xavier posted a sellout crowd as 10,212 fans were in attendance at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers have now won 35 straight season openers, including all 25 season openers at Cintas Center. Xavier also moves to 2-0 all-time vs the Tigers.

NOTABLE
- Ryan Conwell scored a game-high 21 points on 6-for-12 shooting. The guard was also 5-for-10 from behind the arc and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe. He added three steals.
- Xavier posted 14 steals, paced by Zach Freemantle's game-high four steals. Seven different Musketeers had a steal. The last time Xavier had 14 steals in a game was on Feb. 3, 2024 at DePaul (W, 93-68).
- Zach Freemantle added 19 points and 11 rebounds, his 21st career double-double. The forward was 5-for-9 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.
- Dayvion McKnight recorded 19 points on 5-for-9 shooting. The guard added five assists and two steals. He was also 8-for-8 from the foul line.
- Dailyn Swain chipped in 14 points on 3-for-5 shooting. He added five assists and one steal.
- Xavier finished the game 34-for-41 from the foul line. The last time Xavier made 34 free throws was on March 2, 2024 at Georgetown (34-for-46).
- The Musketeers were limited to a .373 field-goal percentage (19-for-51). Xavier was also 6-for-23 from behind the arc.
- Both teams posted 34 rebounds. Xavier forced 17 turnovers, converting the miscues into 21 points. Texas Southern held a 43-3 advantage in bench points and scored six more second-chance points (12-6). The Musketeers scored eight more fastbreak points (16-8).
- The Tigers were 25-for-58 from the floor and 10-for-23 from behind the arc. Texas Southern was also 11-for-13 from the foul line.
