Men's Tennis Hosts Cleveland State on Saturday

Match set to begin at 5 PM at Eastern Hills
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis is set to host Cleveland State on Saturday, Feb. 3, with the match beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Eastern Hills.
The Musketeers are 1-4 after picking up a 4-3 win over NKU on Saturday.

OPPONENT INFO
- The Vikings are 3-1 on the season, picking up wins over Binghamton, Butler and Duquesne, while falling to Penn State. CSU will face Dayton on Friday evening.
- CSU went 19-8 overall last season and 7-1 in Horizon League play, falling to Tennessee tech in the Horizon League Tournament Semifinals.
- Xavier brings a two-match win streak over the Vikings into the season after taking a 4-3 win in Cleveland last season.
LAST TIME OUT
- Xavier picked up a 4-3 road win at Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon at Five Seasons Sports Club.
- In doubles play, NKU took the first decision, taking a 6-3 win on the No. 1 court against Ryan Cahill and Pascal Mosberger. Xavier picked up a win on No. 2 doubles, with Charlie Temming and Cristian Gonzalez combining for the 6-3 victory. On No. 3 doubles, Kyle Totorica and Jorge Santamaria came back from 5-2 deficit to take the 7-5 win and the doubles point for Xavier.
- In singles play, Xavier went ahead 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win for Ryan Cahill on the No. 2 court. The Norse picked up wins on the No. 5 court, 6-3, 6-4 against Kyle Totorica, and on the No. 3 court, 7-5, 6-1, against Charlie Temming to tie the match at 2-2.
- Marco Pennelli picked up a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win on No. 4 singles, and Pascal Mosberger fell 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 on the No. 1 court to tie the match at 1-1 with one court still playing.
On the final court, Cristian Gonzalez picked up a come-back win No. 6 singles, taking the point 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Musketeers at 4-3.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
- Next weekend, Xavier travels to Greenville, S.C. for a pair of matches, facing Gardner-Webb on Saturday Feb. 10, set for a 3 PM start at Furman, then facing the Paladins on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 10 AM, also at Furman.
THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns six letterwinners from last year's squad that finished the season at 12-9 overall.
- The 2022-23 season marked a second-straight season with 12 wins, the first time the program had back-to-back 10-plus win season since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
- The Musketeer returners include Ryan Cahill, Pascal Mosberger, Marco Pennelli, Jorge Santamaria, Charlie Temming and Kyle Totorica.
- Xavier also added a pair of freshmen, Alex Adamec and Cristian Gonzalez.
