Women's Tennis Travels to EKU, Michigan State this Weekend

Musketeers face Colonels on Friday at 3 PM, Spartans on Sunday 11 AM
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis remains on the road this weekend, traveling south to face Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 16, set for a 6:00 p.m. start in Richmond. The Musketeers then travel north, heading to East Lansing, Mich., to face the Michigan State Spartans on Sunday, February 19, set for an 11:00 a.m. start.
The Musketeers are 5-2 on the season and enter the weekend on a four-match win streak after sweeping UConn, 7-0, and topping Boston College, 4-3, on the road last weekend.

OPPONENT INFO - EASTERN KENTUCKY
- The Colonels are 6-5 on the season with wins over Western Kentucky, Tennessee State, Union College (Ky.), NKU, Cambellsville and Lindsey Wilson. EKU will face Dayton on Friday ahead of the match with Xavier.
- EKU went 5-19 overall and 1-7 in ASUN Play, falling to Kennesaw State, 4-0, in the first round of the league tournament.
- Xavier took the 6-1 win in the last match-up between the two programs in 2018. The Musketeers enter the season with an eight-game winning streak.
OPPONENT INFO - MICHIGAN STATE
- The Spartans are 5-2 with wins over Missouri, Dartmouth, Toledo, Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan. MSU is currently on a four-match win streak and will face Southern Cal on Friday.
- MSU went 9-14 overall and 2-9 in Big Ten matches last season. The Spartans fell to Rutgers, 5-1, in the Big Ten Tournament First Round.
- Xavier took the 4-3 win over Spartans in last season's match-up.

- Next weekend, Xavier returns to Cincinnati for a pair of matches, hosting Cincinnati at Eastern Hills on Friday, February 23 at 5:00 p.m.
- The Musketeers will also Cornell on Saturday, Feb. 24, set for a 3:00 p.m. start at Eastern Hills.
WEEKLY AWARDS
- After going 2-0 in the No. 1 doubles spot on a 2-0 weekend for Xavier women's tennis, Imani Graham and Anna Roggenburk were named the BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week by the league office on Monday.
- In Xavier's 7-0 sweep of UConn on Saturday, Graham, a senior from St. Johns, Fla., and Roggenburk, a redshirt senior from Avon Lake, Ohio, took a 6-4 win over the Huskies' Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou to help Xavier take the doubles point.
- On Sunday against Boston College, the pair helped Xavier come back to take the doubles point after the Eagles took the first decision, winning the No. 1 court, 6-3, to help Xavier to the 4-3 win. The Musketeers have now won four straight matches.
- The pair are now 6-1 on the season and have won five in a row all in the No. 1 spot for the Musketeers. This is their second BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week honor of the season.
LAST TIME OUT
- Xavier wrapped up a 2-0 weekend last Sunday with a 4-3 win over Boston College on the road
- In doubles, Boston College picked up the first result, taking the No. 2 court, 6-1, over Abby Nugent and Ellie Brotherton. Imani Graham and Anna Roggenburk pulled the Musketeers even with a 6-3 win on the No. 1 court. Emily Flowers and Sofia Mazzucato secured the point with a 6-4 win on the No. 3 court.
- In singles play, Anna Roggenburk made it a 2-0 Xavier lead, taking the No. 2 court 6-1, 6-2. Boston College picked up back-to-back wins, on No. 3 singles against Abby Nugent, 6-2, 6-2, and on No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, against Imani Graham to tie the match at 2-2.
- The Eagles moved ahead 3-2 with a 6-1, 6-1 win on the No. 4 court against Abigail Siminski, 6-1, 6-1.
- Sofia Mazzucato took a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win on the the No. 5 court to tie the match at 3-3.
- Emily Flowers took a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win on the No. 6 court to clinch the match for the Musketeers, setting the final score at 4-3.
THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns six from last year's squad that brought home the program's third-straight, and fourth overall, BIG EAST Championship and earned Xavier's fourth bid to the NCAA Championships.
- The 2022-23 Musketeers finished the season 14-8 overall with a 6-0 record against BIG EAST opponents.
- Among Xavier's returnees are 2023 BIG EAST Player of the Year, Imani Graham, and BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Abby Nugent.
- Anna Roggenburk, Blessing Nwaozuzu, Emily Flowers and Abigail Siminski also return for the Musketeers.
- Xavier added a pair of freshmen, Ellie Brotherton and Sofia Mazzucato.
- The Musketeers also added Elizabeth Pendergast, a transfer from Cincinnati, who joined the program in the 2024 spring semester.
