CLEMSON, S.C. - Xavier baseball dropped the series finale at No. 9 Clemson, 11-7, on Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Xavier took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Garrett Schultz took a lead-off single and then scored on a Jared Cushing single. The Tigers scored three in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 advantage into the third.

In the top of the third, Schultz again led off with a single, and a walk from DePrey moved him to second. A single from Tyler DeMartino scored Schultz, and a single from Hayden Christiansen brought in DePrey to tie the game at 3-3.

Xavier moved back in front in the fourth, after Matt McCormick hit a bases-loaded single to bring in Aedan Anderson and Donavan Canterberry, to give the Musketeers a 5-3 lead.

Clemson got a run back in the bottom of the frame and added runs in the fifth and the sixth to move back in front, 8-5, headed into the seventh.

Xavier scored a pair of runs to cut the lead back to one, with McCormick scoring on a Christiansen sac fly after taking a lead-off walk, and Cushing scoring on a Luke Hammond double to make it 8-7 Clemson.

The Tigers responded with a three-run bottom of the frame, setting the final score at 11-7.

Xavier heads to Louisville for a midweek match-up, facing the Cardinals on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 3:00 p.m.

AT THE PLATE

Garrett Schultz hit a pair of singles, coming around to score both times he got on base.
Matthew DePrey finished 1-2 at the plate and had three walks for the day.
Matt McCormick went 1-4 with a walk, driving in a pair of RBI and scoring a run.
Tyler DeMartino finished with a hit (1-3) and a pair of walks, driving in an RBI.
Hayden Christiansen finished with two RBI, bringing runs in with a single and a sac fly.
Jared Cushing (1-5) drove in a run with a single and scored a run.
Luke Hammond finished with a hit, his seventh inning double that helped score Jared Cushing.
Aedan Anderson and Donavan Canterberry each score a run.

ON THE MOUND

Nick Boyle went 3.2 innings in the start, allowing four earned runs on six hits and seven walks. He finished with a pair of strikeouts.
Jake Hooker entered for the final out of the fourth, getting the Musketeers out of the inning with a fly ball. He went 1.1 innings in his collegiate debut, allowing three run, two earned, on two hits and two walks, picking up a strikeout.
Alex Vera entered for the sixth, going 1.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits with a pair of walks.
Jonathan Kelly went the final 1.2 innings for the Musketeers, allowing one run on three hits.
