Nick Boyle Strikes Out Career-High 11 in 4-2 Win Over Indiana State

Hammond finishes 4-of-4 at the plate; Misch and Christiansen each hit home runs in series finale
CINCINNATI -Â Xavier baseball took the 4-2 win in the series finale against Indiana State on Sunday afternoon, with Nick Boyle finishing with 11 of Xavier's season-high 13 strikeouts. The Musketeers finished the series at 1-2 and moved to 9-11 on the season.
The game was scoreless headed into the top of the third, where the Sycamores scored to take a 1-0 lead. The one-run advantage held into the bottom of the sixth, with Boyle pitching 1-2-3 innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth to keep the ISU advantage at one.
Connor Misch hit a solo home run to start the bottom of the sixth, tying the game at 1-1. Jared Cushing hit a two-out double, then scored on a single from Aedan Anderson to put Xavier in front 2-1 headed to the seventh.
Boyle came back out for the seventh, picking up his 10th and 11th Ks while sitting the Sycamores down in order.Â
Luke Hammond led off the bottom of the inning with double to put a runner on for Hayden Christiansen, who homered for a third-straight game to extend the lead to 4-1.
ISU picked up a run in the eighth to get within two, but Jake Hooker struck out two in the ninth to keep the Sycamores off the board and set the final score at 4-2.
Next up, Xavier travels to Knoxville, Tenn. on Tuesday, March 19 to face another top-10 opponent in the Tennessee Volunteers, set for a 6:00 PM start on SEC Network+.

AT THE PLATE
- Hayden Christiansen (1-4) finished with two RBI after hitting his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh, giving him a long-ball in all three games of the series.
- Connor Misch (1-3) had an RBI and a run scored after hitting a solo home run in the sixth to tie the game, his first homer of the season.
- Luke Hammond had a career-high four hits after going 4-fof-4 at the plate from the lead off spot, including a pair of doubles. He also finished with a run scored.
- Aedan Anderson went 1-of-1, driving in an RBI on a single in the sixth inning.
- Jared Cushing finished 1-of-3 with a walk, coming around to score a run after getting aboard with a double in the sixth.
- Isaac Wachsmann also recorded a hit.
- Carter Hendrickson got aboard with a pair of hits, and Matthew DePrey also finished with a walk.
ON THE MOUND
- Nick Boyle set a new career-high for a third-straight week, finishing with 11 strikeouts, the most for a Musketeer this season. The senior righty went a career-long 7.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits and two walks and picked up the win to move to 3-0 on the season.Â
- Jake Hooker entered for the final 2.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits, walking one and striking out a pair on the way to his second save of the season.
- Boyle and Hooker combined for 13 strikeouts, the most Ks in a game for the Musketeers' pitching staff this seasonÂ
