Musketeers Take Walk-Off Win in Series Opener with Bowling Green

Jared Cushing hits two-run shot to put Xavier on top in 11-10 win over Falcons
Matt McCormick hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first to get the Musketeers on the board first. Bowling Green tied it up in the top of the second, but Xavier added three in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead. Aedan Anderson got aboard on an error to start the second and Jared Cushing walked to put two on for Carter Hendrickson. A double to right field from Hendrickson drove in Anderson, and a double from Luke Hammond brought Cushing and Hendrickson home to put Xavier in front 4-1.
The Falcons scored a pair of runs in the third to cut the Xavier lead to one, then moved in front with a five-run top of the fifth to lead 8-4.Â
A solo home run from Hammond to start the bottom of the fifth cut the lead back to three, but BGSU run in the sixth pushed the lead back to four, 9-5.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Cushing walked and Hendrickson singled to put two on for Hammond, who hit his second homer of the day to drive in three runs, pulling the Musketeers within one, 9-8.
The Falcons added a run in the seventh to lead 19-8, which held into the bottom of the ninth. Hayden Christiansen cut it to 10-9 with a solo home run. Matthew DePrey got on with a single, and Jared Cushing hit a walk-off home run to left field to bring in two runs, setting the final score at 11-10 in favor of the Musketeers.
The Musketeers continue the series with BGSU on Friday, March 29, set for a 2:00 p.m. start at Hayden Field.

- Luke Hammond finished with a career-best six RBI after going 3-of-5 at the plate, with a double and two home runs. He now has seven homers for the season.
- Jared Cushing (1-3) finished with two RBI after hitting his second home run of the season for the walk-off win. He also got on twice on walks, scoring a team-high three runs.
- Hayden Christiansen went 3-of-5, hitting his fifth home run of the season in the ninth to finish with an RBI and a run scored.
- Matt McCormick (1-5) added to his team-high home run total, hitting his 10th of the season in the first inning.
- Carter Hendrickson went 3-of-4 at the plate, driving in an RBI and scoring a pair of runs.
- Matthew DePrey recorded a pair of hits, coming around to score a run. Aedan Anderson also scored a run.
- Luke Hoskins made the start, going 5.0 inning, allowing eight runs, but only four earned, on 11 hits, finishing with four strikeouts.
- Jack Niedringhaus came in for the sixth, allowing one run on one hit.
- Connor Bailey picked up the first out of the seventh with a line out.
- Alex Vera entered with one out in the seventh, facing three batters. He allowed on run, unearned, on one hit and a pair of walks.
- Jonathan Kelly entered with one out and the bases loaded in the seventh, going 2.0Â innings without allowing a run, giving up two hits and three walks.
- Nolan Hughes entered with two on and one out in the ninth, pitching the final 0.2 inning without allowing a run or a hit. He picked up the win to move to 1-2 on the season.
