Aedan Anderson homers in 5-2 loss to the Bearcats

CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball fell to Cincinnati, 5-2, in Joe Nuxhall Classic at Prasco Park on Tuesday evening. The Musketeers moved to 15-17 on the season and 1-1 in the season series with the Bearcats, with the final game between the two set to be played on Wednesday, April 17 at UC Baseball Stadium.

Cincinnati took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and added two more in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Another Bearcat run in the seventh extended the lead to 5-0, holding the lead into the eighth.

In the bottom of the eight, Carter Hendrickson led off the inning with a double down the left field line to put a runner on for Aedan Anderson, who homered to center to cut the lead to 5-2. Luke Hammond got aboard with a walk and Matt McCormick reached on an error to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Musketeers were limited to two runs in the inning, setting the final score at 5-2.

Xavier returns home this weekend for the first home BIG EAST series, hosting Creighton for three games, starting on Friday, April 12 and running through Sunday, April 14 at Hayden Field.

AT THE PLATE

Aedan Anderson went 1-of-3, hitting his seventh home runs of the season to drive in two RBI and score a run.
Carter Hendrickson went 2-of-3 at the plate, scoring a run on Anderson's home run.
Luke Hammond went 1-of-3 with a walk.
Hayden Christiansen also finished 1-of-3 with a walk.

ON THE MOUND

Connor Bailey made the start, going 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out one.
Tyler Sausville entered from the bullpen for the fourth, pitching 0.2 innings with two runs scoring, one earned, on a pair of walks and a hit batter.
Nolan Hughes entered with two outs in the fourth, picking up the final out of the inning with a strikeout. Hughes pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, walking four and striking out four.
Jonathan Kelly entered with one on and one out in the sixth, going 1.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit with one walk.
Alex Vera came in from the bullpen for the final out of the seventh, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings without allowing a hit, striking out two and walking one.
Aiden Cook came out for the ninth inning, facing one batter and issuing a walk.
Jake Lambdin entered with one on and no outs in the ninth, not allowing a run or a hit in 1.0 inning of work, striking out one and walking a pair.
