05.11.24 | Baseball
Xavier goes for second-straight weekend sweep in series finale, set for noon on Sunday
The Hoyas took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and held the Musketeers off the board into the sixth inning. Matt McCormick led off the sixth with a double and was followed by Connor Misch's second home run of the series to cut the Georgetown lead to 3-2. The Hoyas responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-run homer to extend the lead back to three.
Aedan Anderson hit his BIG EAST-leading 16th home run of the season in the top of the seventh, cutting the Hoya lead back to two, 5-3.
Trailing by two in the ninth, Anderson got aboard with a one-out single, and Isaac Wacshmann came to the plate, hitting his second home run since returning from injury, driving in two runs to tie the game at 5-5. Wachsmann's ninth-inning home run marked the fourth-straight game that a Musketeer has homered in the ninth, and marked the third straight game that Xavier has tied the game or taken the lead in the ninth.
After holding the Hoyas off the board in the bottom of the ninth, the game headed to the 10th inning, where Carter Hendrickson hit a one-out single, moved to second on a bunt single from Matthew DePrey, and moved to third on a fly ball from Hayden Christiansen. Luke Hammond hit a double to the center-field wall, scoring Hendrickson to put the Musketeer in front for the first time at 6-5, setting the final score.
The series finale with the Hoyas is set for Sunday, May 11, with a 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
