Musketeer Comeback Falls Short to Army

Multipe Musketeers recorded career-highs in the five-set battle.
ST. LOUIS - The Xavier volleyball team was unable to complete the reverse sweep of Army at the Billiken Invitational, dropping their final match 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 9-15). The Musketeers return home with a 1-2 record on the weekend.
After falling behind two sets, Xavier took advantage of an 8-1 run to win the third set and gain momentum into the fourth. After a back-and-forth battle in the fourth, the Musketeers pulled away with a 7-0 run to take a 21-14 lead and eventually force a fifth set.
Xavier drops to 1-5 (0-0 BIG EAST) while Army moves to 3-3 (0-0 Patriot).

Xavier will face crosstown rival Cincinnati in the Musketeers' home opener on Thursday at 6:00 p.m and Kent State will visit Cintas Center on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on FloSports.

- Emma Grace recorded her third straight double-double and the 14th of her career with a season-high 15 kills along with 12 digs. The redshirt junior also tallied both her 500th kill and dig during the match.
- St. Louis native Anna Taylor notched a new career-high 18 kills for her third consecutive double digit game.
- Sophomore Elouise Czajkowski recorded career-highs in digs (13) and assists (4).
- Quinci Thomas put away a career-high 10 kills on no errors for a .435 clip.
- The Musketeers recorded 66 kills, the most since last season's record 67 in the opener against Indiana St.
- Margo Kemp had 10 kills with one error to continue to lead the team with a .385 hitting percentage.
- Sarah Stevens had seven kills on no errors along with six blocks.
- Xavier recorded a season-high 81 digs, the most since last season's five-set win over No. 11 Creighton with 87.
- The Musketeers also hit a season-best .257.
- Logan Flaugh dished out a career-high 50 assists, the most by any Musketeer since 2022. The senior setter also recorded 10 digs her fifth double-double as well as a career-high five kills.
- Stevens and Taylor were named to the Billiken Invitational All-Tournament Team.
