Musketeers face Memphis on Saturday in West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Xavier women's tennis fell, 4-3, to Purdue on Friday afternoon at Purdue's Schwartz Tennis Center.

The Musketeers remain in West Layfayette, Ind., to face Memphis on Saturday, February 1, at the Schwartz Tennis Center, set for a 10:00 a.m. start.

The Match

In doubles play, Purdue picked up a 6-2 win on the No. 1 court against Abby Nugent and Clara Owen, while Emily Flowers and Elizabeth Pendergast took a 6-4 decision on the No. 2 court. Purdue picked up the point on the No. 3 court, with a 6-3 win against Ellie Brotherton and Abigail Siminski for the 1-0 lead.

The Musketeers picked up the first singles decision, with Abby Nugent taking a 6-4, 6-3 win on the No. 2 court to tie the match at 1-1. The Boilermakers moved back in front, 2-1, with a 6-3, 7-5 win on the No. 1 court against Elizabeth Pendergast.

Madeleine Rexroat pulled the Musketeers even again at 2-2, taking a 7-5, 6-4 win on the No. 3 court. Abigail Siminski forced tiebreakers in the second set on court No. 5, but fell 6-3, 7-6 (2) to put the Boilermakers back in front 3-2.

Clara Owen took the opening set on court No. 6, but fell 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3, to clinch the match for the Boilermakers at 4-2.

Emily Flowers picked up the final decision, taking a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win on the No. 4 court to set the final score at 4-3 in favor of Purdue.
