OPPONENT INFO
- The Pirates are 3-4-5 overall and 0-3-1 in BIG EAST play after playing St. John's to a draw and falling to Villanova, Georgetown and Providence.
- SHU, which was picked 11th in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll, went 4-12-3 overall and 1-7-2 in BIG EAST play last season, placing 11th in the league standings.

WEEKLY AWARDS
- Reese Slater was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after picking up three points on a goal and an assist last week, helping the Musketeers go 2-0 and remain unbeaten in BIG EAST play.
- Slater, a junior midfielder from Northville, Mich., picked up an assist on Natalie Bain's goal in the first 15 minutes after serving the ball in front of the goal on a free kick in Xavier's 2-1 win at Creighton on Wednesday.
- In the Musketeers' 1-0 win over Butler on Saturday, Slater scored her second goal of the season in the first 10 minutes of the match, marking her first collegiate game-winner. For the season, she has seven points on two goals and three assists.
- The midfielder also played the full 90 minutes in both matches, helping the Musketeer defense limit Creighton to just two shots on goal, and then holding Butler off the board for Xavier's seventh shutout of the season.
XAVIER NOTABLES
- Xavier currently stands at 9-2-2 overall after extending its unbeaten streak to 11 matches with a 1-0 win over Butler.
- Five matches into the the 10-match BIG EAST schedule, Xavier is 4-0-1 in conference play, currently standing in second place with 13 points, trailing only first place Georgetown (5-0-0) with 15 points. The two teams will face each other in the regular season finale on Saturday. Nov. 1, at Corcoran Field.
- The Musketeers moved up in both national polls this week, coming in at No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 and No. 23 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll after going 2-0 last week.
- Xavier has seven shutouts on the season, with the Musketeers' shutout percentage of 0.538 ranking second in the BIG EAST and 32nd in NCAA DI.
- The Musketeers are 9-0-2 over the past 11 matches, outscoring opponents 42-6 over that stretch. The Xavier offense leads the BIG EAST and ranks in the top five in the country in goal differential (31 – 3rd in DI), scoring offense (3.23 – 4th in DI), total points (121 – 4th in DI), total goals (42 – 5th in DI) and points per game (9.31 – 5th in DI).
- Xavier also ranks in the top 10 in the country and leads the conference in assists per game (2.85 – 8th in DI) and total assists (37 – 9th in DI).
- Samantha Erbach leads the Musketeers and the BIG EAST with 26 points on eight goals and 10 assists, the seventh most points among NCAA DI players. She ranks seventh in NCAA DI at 2.00 points per game.
- Erbach's total goals trail only Elin Hansson among BIG EAST players and ranks 33rd in NCAA DI, while her goals per game (0.62) rank 44th in NCAA DI.
- Erbach, who was ranked No. 12 on Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Players list, leads the nation with 10 assists on the season and ranks second in NCAA DI with 0.77 assists per game.
- After posting her second hat trick of the season against Villanova, Elin Hansson now has a BIG EAST leading 11 goals for the year, fifth most in NCAA DI. Hansson, who was ranked No. 37 in Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Players list, also leads the conference in goals per game (0.85), ranking fifth in the country, and ranks fourth in the nation in shot accuracy (0.688).
- Combined with three assists, Hansson has 25 points on the season, trailing only Samantha Erbach among BIG EAST players and ranking eighth among all DI players. She also ranks second in the league and ninth in NCAA DI with 1.92 points per game.
- Xavier has 11 different goal scorers so far this season, with nine, Hansson, Erbach, Emma Flick, Peyton Kohls, Chelsea Loeser, Reese Sochacki, Natalie Bain, Regan Dancer and Reese Slater, knocking in multiple goals.
- Eleven Musketeers have also dished out assists.
LAST TIME OUT
- Xavier remained unbeaten in BIG EAST play and extended its unbeaten streak to 11 matches with a 1-0 win over Butler at Corcoran Field on Saturday night.
- Xavier struck early, with Reese Slater putting the Musketeers up 1-0 in the first 10 minutes of the match off a pass from Elin Hansson. The Musketeers had a 7-3 advantage on shots, with two shots each for Slater and Emma Flick, in the first half.
- In the second half, the Musketeers had a 12-3 advantage on shots, led by three in period for Regan Dancer, with five of those going on goal. All three of Butler's shots were on-goal, with Maria Galley collecting all three, finishing with four saves total for the match for the shutout, Xavier's seventh of the season.
- Slater's goal was her second of the season and her first game-winner as a Musketeer. She has seven points on two goals and three assists for the year.
- Elin Hansson picked up her third assist of the season on Slater's goal, combining with 11 goals to give her 25 points.
- Xavier finished with a 19-6 advantage on shots, led by four each for Regan Dancer and Emma Flick.
- Breanna Dardano, making her first collegiate start, Natalie Bain, Slater and Dancer all played the full 90 minutes.
- Maria Galley played the full match in-goal, collecting four saves for her fourth complete shutout and the seventh clean sheet of the season for the Musketeers.
- The win over the Bulldogs moved Xavier's unbeaten streak against Butler to five matches, now standing at 4-0-1 against BU since 2021.
BAIN NAMED PRESEASON BIG EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
- Reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, Natalie Bain, was selected as the 2025 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches, the conference announced on Tuesday, August 12. Bain also has been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch list, the United Soccer Coaches Defenders to Watch list, and came in at No. 8 on Top Drawer Soccer's Preseason Players to Watch list.
- Bain, who came in at No. 62 in Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Players list, has started in all 13 matches so far for the Musketeers, helping Xavier to nine wins and seven shutouts, and helping the Xavier defense limit opponents to just 11 goals on the season.
- On offense, Bain has matched her career high with seven points, on a pair of goals and a career-best three assists.
- Bain earned 2024 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year after starting in all 21 matches last season, helping the Musketeer defense limit opposing teams to just 18 goals overall and just seven in BIG EAST play. Bain led the Musketeers' field players in minutes played at 1,845 and played the full time in 16 matches, including nine of 10 BIG EAST games. The native of Alexandria, Ky., helped Xavier's defense to 10 shutouts on the season.
- On offense, Bain had a career-high three goals, and combined with an assist, finished the season with a career-best seven points in 2024. Among her goals were the game-winner in Xavier's 8-0 win at Valpo, one of two goals for the game, marking her first multi-goal game as a Musketeer.
- In addition to earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, Bain was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection for a second straight year, also earning Preseason Defensive Player of the Year ahead of the season.
- Bain, a 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, also earned a spot on the USC All-America Second Team, becoming the first Musketeer in program history to earn USC All-American honors twice in her career.
RETURNING MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns 14 letterwinners, including seven starters, from 2024's 15-win team. The Musketeer returnees accounted for over 60 percent of Xavier's 51 goals scored last season, the most goals scored by the program since 1984.
- Among the returnees are 2025 All-BIG EAST Preseason selections Natalie Bain, Samantha Erbach and Regan Dancer.
- Erbach, the 2024 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and All-BIG EAST First Team selection, was named to the USC Forwards to Watch list and came in at No. 51 on the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Players to Watch list. Erbach started in all 21 matches for the Musketeers during her rookie season. She wrapped up last season with a team-high 11 goals and dished out five assists to finish with 27 points, second most on the team. Among her goals were a team-best four game-winning goals, including the game-winners in the Musketeers' win at Butler and in the win over DePaul in the BIG EAST Semifinals.
- Dancer, a 2024 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, started in all 21 matches for the Musketeers in 2024, finishing the season with a career-high 14 points on a career-high six goals and two assists, matching for third most goals on the team and fourth most points. Among her goals were three game-winners, including at BIG EAST opponents Villanova and Marquette, tying for third in the BIG EAST for game-winning goals.
- 2024 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Emma Flick, who was named to USC's Midfielders to Watch list, started all 21 matches for the Musketeers. She collected a career-high 20 points on six goals and a team high-matching eight assists, setting new career-highs for goals and assists. Among her six goals were three game-winners, tying her for third in the BIG EAST for game-winning goals last season. Flick's eight assists were tied for first in the BIG EAST and tied for 64th in NCAA DI following the 2024 season.
- Senior goalkeeper Maria Galley was also a 2024 All-BIG EAST Second Team Selection after starting in all 21 matches in-goal for the Musketeers, finishing the campaign with 15 wins, the second most in a single season in school history. Galley's 15 wins in 2024 give her a school-record 43 wins for her Xavier career. Galley collected 51 saves and finished with nine complete shutouts, giving her a school-record 32 shutouts as a Musketeer. She ranked No.1 in the BIG EAST and 26th in NCAA DI for shutouts following the 2024 season.
2024 SEASON
- The 2024 Musketeers posted a 15-4-2 overall record, the third most wins in program history, in Dean Ward's first season as head coach.
- In conference action, Xavier posted a 7-2-1 record in BIG EAST play, earning the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Championship.
- The 2024 Musketeers also earned the highest-ranked road result in program history, at 2-2 draw at No. 4 Michigan State.
- On offense, the Musketeers finished the season with 51 goals, the second most in program history and the most by a Xavier team since the 1984 season, and collected 139 points, the most by the Musketeers in over three decades.
- The Musketeer defense collected 10 shutouts, only allowing 18 goals on the season.
- Following the season, three Musketeers earned BIG EAST awards, with Natalie Bain being named Defender of the Year, Samantha Wiehe earning Midfielder of the Year, and Samantha Erbach picking up Freshman of the Year honors.
- Bain and Wiehe were both named USC Second Team All-American, marking the first time in program history that two Musketeers earned All-America honors.
