Men's Basketball Closes Out The Season-Opening Three-Game Homestand On Monday Night

Santa Clara head coach Herb Sendek is a familiar name to area fans.
CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University Musketeers, 2-0, host the Santa Clara University Broncos on Monday night at 8:30 p.m. at Cintas. The matchup is the final contest of Xavier's season-opening three-game homestand.
Xavier has five players averaging in double figures in scoring through two games led by senior Mailk Messina-Moore, who is at 16.5 ppg.

Senior Malik Messina-Moore led three Xavier double-figure scorers with 17 points to go with five assists. Senior Roddie Anderson III added 15 points. XU hit 13-25 from 3-point range, including four from Messina-Moore.
• Xavier has five players averaging in double figures in scoring through two games: Malik Messina-Moore (16.5 ppg.), Tre Carroll (11.0 ppg.), Roddie Anderson III (11.0 ppg.), Jovan Milićević (10.0 ppg.) and All Wright (10.0 ppg.).
• Xavier returns no scholarship letterwinners for the first time in school history. XU made the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
• Xavier's Richard Pitino, who is looking for his 250th career win as a head coach, is off to a 2-0 start as the Musketeer head coach. Pitino, who was the head coach at New Mexico for the past four seasons, led the Lobos to a 27-8 overall record and the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Pitino has 13 previous seasons of experience as a head coach, including eight years at Minnesota.
• Xavier is facing off against Santa Clara head coach Herb Sendek for the seventh time. Xavier is 4-2 against Sendek, including 3-1 in his time as the Miami (Ohio) head coach and 1-1 in his time as the Arizona State head coach.
• Xavier's men's basketball team has compiled a 340-64 (.842) record in its 26th season in its on-campus home, the 10,224-seat Cintas Center, including 2-0 this season.
• Xavier has welcomed 3,935,019 men's basketball fans to Cintas Center and is set to pass the four million mark sometime this season.
• Xavier played its first men's basketball game at Cintas Center on Nov. 18, 2000, a 68-54 win by late head coach Skip Prosser's squad vs. Miami (Ohio). XU celebrates the 25-year anniversary of that game on Nov. 18 vs. Old Dominion.
