No. 4 Huskies Upend Musketeers on New Year's Eve

CINCINNATIÂ - Xavier dropped a 90-67 BIG EAST matchup vs No. 4 UConn on Wednesday night at Cintas Center.
Xavier dropped to 9-5 (1-2 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Huskies improved to 13-1 (3-0 BIG EAST).
The Musketeers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 3 at DePaul. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. ET with the game being aired nationally on FS1.

NOTABLES
- Marquette never trailed in the game and led by as many as 25 points (33-8) with 8:59 left in the first half. Xavier responded by outscoring UConn, 20-10, on 9-for-15 shooting to make it a 15-point game at the break (43-28).
- The Musketeers closed within 13 points twice in the second half, but the Huskies pulled away by outscoring Xavier, 47-39, in the second half. UConn hit 58.1 percent (18-for-31) of its shot attempts in the second half.
- Malik Messina-Moore scored a team-high 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting. He added four assists.
- Roddie Anderson III added 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting in 29 minutes of action off the bench. The guard added two rebounds and one assist.
- Filip Borovićanin posted his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. He also dished out a team-high six assists and recorded a game-high four steals.
- Tre Carroll finished with nine points, four rebounds and four assists. He added one steal.
- Xavier posted a .429 field-goal percentage (24-for-56) and went 4-for-18 from behind the arc (season-low four made 3-pointers). The Musketeers were also 15-for-22 from the foul line.
- UConn won the battle on the glass, 42-26, and scored seven more second-chance points (11-4). Xavier held a 17-16 advantage in points off of turnovers and scored six more points in the paint (38-32).
- UConn held a 10-8 advantage in fastbreak points. Xavier scored two more bench points (24-22).
- UConn finished with a .532 field-goal percentage (33-for-62) and went 13-for-28 from behind the arc. The Huskies were also 11-for-14 from the foul line.
- Alex Karaban led four Huskies in double figures with a game-high 19 points. He added seven rebounds and four assists.
