Abby Nugent Earns BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week Honors

Junior went 2-0 in the No. 2 spot over the weekend against Purdue and Memphis

NEW YORK - Junior Abby Nugent was named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week by the league office on Monday after going 2-0 in the No. 2 doubles spot over the weekend against Purdue and Memphis.

Nugent, originally from Springboro, Ohio, picked up the first singles decision against Purdue, taking a 6-4, 6-3 win on the No. 2 court to tie the match at 1-1 as the Musketeers battled to a 4-3 loss to the Boilermakers on Friday. She also picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win on No. 2 singles to help the Musketeers take the 4-1 win over the Tigers on Saturday, marking her third-straight singles win.

The pair of Nugent and Clara Owen, who were ranked No. 17 in the ITA's most recent doubles rankings, also picked up a win over Memphis on the No. 1 doubles court, 6-4, to help the Musketeers take the doubles point.

Xavier travels to Bloomington, Ind., next weekend to face IU on Sunday, February 9, set for an 11:00 a.m. start.
