Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Stanford

Musketeers and Cardinal wrap up four-game series on Sunday at 4 PM ET
STANFORD, Calif.  - Xavier baseball split a Saturday doubleheader at Stanford, taking a 5-4 win in game one, Stanford's first loss of the season, and falling 8-3 in game two. The Musketeers move to 1-2 in the series, with one game remaining, and 6-5 overall.
In game one, Xavier took the lead early after Jake Lambdin led the game off with a single, Carter Hendrickson was hit by a pitched, and Connor Misch walked to load the bases with one out. Landon Mensik put the ball in play to bring in Lambdin and give Xavier the 1-0 lead in the first.
Stanford evened the score with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Musketeers retook the lead in the second. Clay Burdette got on with a one-out double then moved to third on a wild pitch. Eddie Peters hit a double down the left field line to make it a 2-1 Xavier lead.
Xavier added a run in the fifth, with Connor Misch driving in Carter Hendrickson with a single, and two more runs in the seventh, with Misch again hitting a single, this time bringing in two RBI to make it a 5-1 lead. Stanford scored a run in the seventh and a pair in the eighth, but the Musketeers' pitching had a season-high 11 Ks helping keep the Cardinal from tying the game on the way to the 5-4 win.
In game two, after two scoreless innings, Stanford posted a five-run frame in the third to take the lead into the fourth. In the top of four, a single for Jake Lambdin and a walk for Aedan Anderson put two on for Landon Mensik, who singled through the left side to drive in Lambdin. Anderson scored a second run in the inning when Nolan Tucker reached on an error to cut the lead to 5-2.
The score held into the seventh inning when Stanford added another run, but the Musketeers got the run back in the eighth, with Anderson getting on with a walk, moving to third on a single from Connor Misch and scoring on a sac fly from Landon Mensik to make it 6-3. A two-run homer for Stanford in the eighth set the final score at 8-3.
The four-game series at Stanford wraps up on Sunday, with the final game set for a 4:05 PM ET first pitch.

- Trevor Geddes faced one batter in the ninth inning of game one.
- Jake Lambdin moved from third to the mound with two on and two out in the ninth, closing out game one with a strikeout.
