Musketeers go 3-0 against the Cardinals for the weekend
In game one, the Musketeers built out the lead courtesy of home runs, getting a two-run shot in the first from Isaac Wachsmann, a solo homer from Nolan Tucker in the second and a two-run home run from Aedan Anderson in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. Luke Hammond drove in an RBI with a single in the fifth, and Jake Lambdin started the scoring in a three-run sixth inning with a two-run homer, with Clay Burdette also picking up an RBI in the frame.
Luke Hoskins went 5.2 innings with a season-high seven strikeouts in the start on the mound, and Jack Nobe and Jon Wylie combined to keep the Cardinals scoreless for the final 3.1 innings on the way to a 9-2 final score.
In game two, BSU struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on a solo home run in the top of the third. Xavier responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, with walks from Jason Jelic and Jake Lambdin, and a single from Carter Hendrickson loading the bases. Connor Misch was hit by a pitch to bring in Jelic, tying the game. Jake Lambdin scored on wild pitch to take the 2-1 lead.
Isaac Wachsmann hit another two-run homer in the fifth, starting a four-run inning for the Musketeers. Clay Burdette was hit by a pitch and came home on a triple from Nolan Tucker, then Tucker came home on a wild pitch to make it a 6-1 Xavier lead. Burdette added another run on a solo homer in the eighth to set the final score at 7-1.
Xavier heads to Lexington, Ky., for a midweek game against No. 24 Kentucky on Tuesday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+.
- Isaac Wachsmann's team-high fifth home run of the season was a two-run shot in game one of the day. He finished 2-4 with a walk with two RBI and a run scored. Wachsmann added to his team-high home run total in game two, another two run homer for his sixth of the season.
- Nolan Tucker hit his first home run of the season in game one, a solo shot. He finished with an RBI and a run scored. He added another RBI on a triple in the second game.
- Aedan Anderson went 2-3, driving in two RBI with his third home run of the season and scoring two runs in game one.
- Jake Lambdin's first home run of the season was a two-run shot, finishing with two RBI and run scored in game one. He scored a pair of runs in game two, getting on with a double and a walk.
- Luke Hammond went 2-4 at the plate in game one, driving in an RBI and scoring a run.
- Clay Burdette went 1-3 with a walk, finishing with an RBI and a run scored in game one. In game two, he finished with an RBI and two runs scored after hitting his fourth home run of the season.
- Connor Misch drove in an RBI in game two after being hit by a pitch.
- Carter Hendrickson had a career-high four walks, finishing 1-1 with two runs scored in game one.
- Jason Jelic recorded hit (1-3) and a walk in game two, scoring a run.
- Luke Hoskins made the start, going a season-long 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits, striking out a season-high seven and walking three. Hoskins picked up the win to move to 2-0 on the season.
- Jack Nobe entered with two outs in the sixth with a runner on third. He pitched 2.1 innings without allowing a run in game one.
- Jon Wylie pitched the final 1.0 inning of game one, not allowing a run.
- Ben Weber made the start in game two, going a season long 7.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits, striking out three and walking one. Weber picked up the win, his second of the season
- Joseph Chavana entered for the eighth inning of game two, pitching a 1-2-3 frame.
- Trevor Geddes entered for the ninth, going 0.2 innings without allowing a run and giving up one hit.
- Jake Hooker picked up the final out of the second game.
