Musketeers head to Vandy for three-game series this weekend
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.  - Xavier baseball fell, 13-1, at No. 1 Tennessee on Wednesday evening at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Musketeers moved to 7-6 on the season while Tennessee moved to 13-0.
A solo home run for Isaac Wachsmann in the second inning got the Musketeers on the board early, and Logan Schmidt limited Tennessee to just one hit in the first three innings, striking out five and facing the minimum in the first and third frames. Tennessee broke through for a pair of hits in the fourth, a double and a two-run homer, to take the 2-1 lead.
The Volunteers added two runs in the fifth the extend the lead to three, then scored seven in the sixth to take an 11-1 advantage. Tennessee added two more runs in the eighth to stretch the lead to 13-1. Xavier got three singles in top of the ninth but were unable to drive a run across, setting the final score at 13-1.
Xavier heads to Nashville for a three-game series with No. 12Â Vanderbilt, running from Friday, March 7 through Sunday, March 9.

AT THE PLATE
- Isaac Wachsmann (1-3) hit his team-high third home run of the season in the second inning, a solo shot, to finish with an RBI and a run scored.
- Jason Jelic went 1-2 at the plate with a walk, hitting a double.
- Carter Hendrickson and Jake Lambdin each also had a double, both finishing 1-4.
- Donavan Canterberry, Nolan Tucker and Clay Burdette each finished 1-1 at the plate, with a ninth-inning single.
- Connor Misch extended his reached safely streak to 13 games, getting aboard with a walk.
ON THE MOUND
- Logan Schmidt made the start, his first of the season, allowing two earned runs on three hits in 3.2 innings of work. He had a season-high six strikeouts to three walks.
- Ben Weber entered with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth, picking up the final out of the frame with a ground ball. He went 1.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits, striking out two and walking one.
- Sam Stevens entered for the sixth, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks, striking out one in 0.2 inning.
- Jon Wylie entered with two on and two outs in the sixth, going 1.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out one.
- Jack DeTienne pitched the eighth inning, allowing two runs, both unearned, on two his and walk, striking out one.
- Xavier's pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts, matching the season high for the Volunteers' offense.
