Musketeers Secure Series Win with 10-2 Victory at Villanova

Ben Weber pitches 7.0 scoreless innings; Musketeer bats get season-high 17 hits
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Xavier baseball used a season-high 17 hits and 7.0 scoreless innings from starter Ben Weber to take a 10-2 win in game two at Villanova, clinching the series win. Xavier moved to 22-18 on the season and 7-4 in BIG EAST play, now with three series wins in conference action. Villanova moved to 19-16 overall and 4-4 in BIG EAST play.
Xavier picked up a run in the first and the second, with Jake Lambdin leading off the game with a single, moving to third on an error and scoring on a sac fly from Connor Misch in the first, and Clay Burdette hitting a solo home run in the second.
The Musketeer's 2-0 lead held into the fifth when the Musketeers scored five runs on five hits. Lambdin got the bats started with a single, moving to second on an error and scoring on a double from Carter Hendrickson. Misch followed with a single to center field to bring in Hendrickson and a single from Aedan Anderson put two runners on. Burdette's second home run of the day cleared the bases, bringing in three runs to make it a 7-0 Xavier lead.
Xavier made it an 8-0 advantage in the sixth after Isaac Wachsmann led off with a double, moved to third on a sac bunt from Donavan Canterberry and came home on a sac fly from Lambdin.
The Musketeers capped of the scoring in the eighth with Lambdin, Misch and Anderson all taking walks to load the bases with one out. Lambdin came home on a sac fly from Nolan Tucker, and Misch scored on a wild pitch to make it a 10-0 Xavier advantage.
Xavier held the Wildcats off the board for the first seven innings, with Ben Weber allowing just six hits, facing the minimum in the first four innings, and the Musketeers turning five double plays. VU picked up a pair of runs in the eight, but Jon Wylie pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the win.
The series finale with the Wildcats is set for Saturday, April 19, with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on FloCollege.
