Isaac Wachsmann hits go-ahead three run homer in the ninth

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Isaac Wachsmann hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie, giving Xavier the 5-2 win in game three at Villanova, completing the sweep of the Wildcats.Xavier improved to 23-18 on the season and 8-4 in BIG EAST play while Villanova moved to 19-17 overall and 4-5 in BIG EAST play.

Xavier got on the board first after Wachsmann led off the third a double and moved to third on a sac bunt from Donavan Canterberry. A Carter Hendrickson single brought him in to make it a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats countered with a run in the bottom of the third to tie it a 1-1, which held until the top of the fifth when a solo homer from Jason Jelic made it a 2-1 Xavier lead.

Villanova tied it again with a run in the sixth, taking the 2-2 tie into the ninth.

Clay Burdette hit a double with two outs in the ninth to start the rally, and Jelic got aboard with a walk to put two on. Wachsmann hit a home run to left center to bring in three runs, putting the Musketeers in front for good, 5-2.

Xavier returns home to host Cincinnati on Tuesday, April 22, set for a 3 PM start at Hayden Field.

AT THE PLATE

Isaac Wachsmann went 2-of-4 at the plate, hitting his team-high matching ninth home run of the season, finishing with three RBI and two runs scored.
Jason Jelic finished with a hit, a home run, and a walk, driving in an RBI and scoring two runs. His home run was his fourth of the season.
Carter Hendrickson went 2-4 at the plate with a double, driving in an RBI.
Clay Burdette got aboard with a double in the ninth, scoring a run.

Ryan Piech went 4.2 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, finishing with six strikeouts to five walks.
Jack Nobe entered for the final out of the fifth, going 0.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit and one walk.
Trevor Geddes faced one batter in the sixth
Jake Hooker went 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, striking out three and picking up the win, his third of the season.
Luke Hoskins come in for a ninth, going 0.2 innings without allowing a run or a hit, walking one.
