Baseball Completes Sweep with 5-2 Win Over Villanova

Isaac Wachsmann hits go-ahead three run homer in the ninth
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Isaac Wachsmann hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie, giving Xavier the 5-2 win in game three at Villanova, completing the sweep of the Wildcats.Xavier improved to 23-18 on the season and 8-4 in BIG EAST play while Villanova moved to 19-17 overall and 4-5 in BIG EAST play.
Xavier got on the board first after Wachsmann led off the third a double and moved to third on a sac bunt from Donavan Canterberry. A Carter Hendrickson single brought him in to make it a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats countered with a run in the bottom of the third to tie it a 1-1, which held until the top of the fifth when a solo homer from Jason Jelic made it a 2-1 Xavier lead.
Villanova tied it again with a run in the sixth, taking the 2-2 tie into the ninth.
Clay Burdette hit a double with two outs in the ninth to start the rally, and Jelic got aboard with a walk to put two on. Wachsmann hit a home run to left center to bring in three runs, putting the Musketeers in front for good, 5-2.
Xavier returns home to host Cincinnati on Tuesday, April 22, set for a 3 PM start at Hayden Field.
