CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball used a six-run eighth inning to take a 12-6 win over Butler in game one of the three game series. The Musketeers moved to 16-14 overall and 3-1 in BIG EAST play with the win.

Xavier took the early lead in game one, scoring a run in the first after Carter Hendrickson got on with a walk and scored after a Connor Misch single and a Butler error. Misch was hit by a pitch to start a three-run third inning, moving to third on a double from Nolan Tucker and scoring on a single from Aedan Anderson. Jason Jelic drove in Tucker and and Anderson with a double to make it a 4-0 lead. Butler picked up a run in the fourth on a solo home run.

A Tucker single followed by a Jelic home run made it a 6-1 lead after five. Butler added runs in the sixth and seventh, then posted a three-run frame to tie the game at 6-6 in the eighth.

After Butler tied it up in the top of the eighth, Xavier led off the inning with three walks to load the bases. Connor Misch was hit by a pitch to put the Musketeers back in front 7-6. A pair of wild pitches allowed Jake Lambdin and Carter Hendrickson to score. A single from Nolan Tucker brought in Misch, Aedan Anderson singled to put two on and Tucker came in on a balk. Anderson scored on a ground ball from Jelic to cap a six-run inning.

Game two of the series is set for a 1 PM start on Saturday while game three is currently scheduled for noon on Sunday. Follow @XavierBASE on X for further schedule updates.

Jason Jelic drove in a season-high five RBI, going 2-4 at the plate, with a double and his second home run of the season.
Nolan Tucker went 4-5 at the plate, finishing with an RBI and three runs scored.
Connor Misch (1-3) drove in an RBI and scored a pair of runs.
Aedan Anderson went 2-4, finishing with an RBI and two runs scored.
Carter Hendrickson got on with a pair of walks, scoring two runs.
Jake Lambdin went 1-4 with two walks, scoring a run.
Landon Mensik scored a run pinch running and recorded a walk.
Isaac Wachsmann recorded a pair of hits.

Ben Weber went 6.0 innings in the start, allowing two runs on five hits, finishing with a season-high five strikeouts and just two walks.
Joseph Chavana entered for the seventh inning, allowing one run on two hits and getting three strikeouts in 1.0 inning of work.
Ashton Chronister faced two batters in the eighth.
Jack Nobe pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing one run on one hit and a walk, striking out a pair. Nobe picked up the win, his second of the season.
