Xavier travels to St. John's for three-game series this weekend

CINCINNATI - After Xavier put together a four-run top of the ninth inning to come from behind and take the lead, Wright State responded with a four-run bottom of the inning to take the 10-8 win over the Musketeers in the Joe Nuxhall Classic Championship at Prasco Park on Wednesday evening.

Wright State took a 4-0 lead after the first, but Xavier tied it up in the top of the second, with Clay Burdette getting on after being hit by a pitch and scoring on a double from Jason Jelic. Isaac Wachsmann's eighth home run of the season brought in Jelic to cut it to 4-3, and Luke Hammond tied it up with a solo home run, his first of the season.

The 4-4 tie held into the bottom of the eighth when the Raiders drove in a pair of runs to take the 6-4 lead into the ninth. Xavier responded with a four-run frame in the ninth, with Jake Lambdin hitting a solo home run and Carter Hendrickson getting on with a double and using wild pitches to move to third and score to tie the game at 6-6. Connor Misch followed with a walk, and Burdette brought him in with his seventh home run of the season, putting the Musketeers in front 8-6. Wright State responded with a four-run bottom of the inning to take the walk-off win, 10-8.

Xavier heads out for the first road series of BIG EAST play this weekend, traveling to St. John's for a three-game series, set to start on Friday, April 11 and run through Sunday, April 13.

AT THE PLATE

Clay Burdette finished 1-3, driving in two RBI with his seventh home run of the season to give Xavier the lead in the ninth. He also finished with two runs scored.
Isaac Wachsmann (1-4) finished with two RBI and a run scored after hitting his team-high eighth home run of the season.
Luke Hammond went 1-4 driving in an RBI and scoring a run with his first home run of the season.
Jason Jelic went 1-4 with a walk, driving in an RBI with a double and scoring a run in the second inning.
Jake Lambdin went 1-4 with a walk, driving in an RBI and scoring a run with his second homer of the season.
Carter Hendrickson finished 2-4 with a walk, scoring a run on wild pitch in the ninth.
Connor Misch got on with a pair of walks, scoring a run.

Joseph Chavana made the start, going a season long 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and finishing with a season high matching four strikeouts to four walks.
Trevor Geddes entered with two on and one out in the sixth, going 1.1 inning without allowing a run, giving up just one hit and striking out one.
Logan Schmidt entered with two outs and a runner on in the seventh, getting out of the inning with a strikeout. He went 1.1 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits, striking out one.
Jake Hooker came in for the ninth, going 0.2 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on two hits and a walk.
