Musketeers Complete Third Straight Weekend Sweep

Xavier swept Southern Illinois on Saturday afternoon to win the Golden Grizzlies Invitational.
ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Xavier volleyball team defeated Southern Illinois in three sets to complete a 3-0 weekend at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational. The Musketeers have won all three tournaments to open the 2025 season.
XU won a battle of a first set that saw 18 ties and nine lead changes led by Emma Grace who recorded seven kills alone. Anna Taylor also contributed five kills in the frame to hit .500 and lead the Musketeers to a 27-25 win.
The Salukis fought back in the second set, hitting .448 with just two errors, but Xavier took a 25-23 victory.
The Musketeers closed out the match with a dominant third set, recording five blocks and holding SIU to a -.079 clip.
Kelsey Niesen was named the Tournament MVP while Margo Kemp and Charlotte Moriarty each earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Xavier improves to 9-1 while the Salukis fall to 4-5 on the season.
Xavier will face Morehead State in a home-and-away series next Thursday and Saturday. The Musketeers will travel to Morehead, Kentucky, for a 5:00 p.m. first serve on Sept. 18. XU will then host the Eagles on Sept. 20 at 3:00 p.m. for Alumni Day in Cintas Center.
