Xavier Defeats Morehead State on the Road

The Musketeers won the first of two matches between XU and MSU this week.
MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Xavier volleyball team battled out a 3-1 win over Morehead State on Thursday night in Johnson Arena.
The Musketeers came out swinging, tallying 16 kills to build up to a commanding 19-9 lead in the first. The Eagles fought back with a late 5-0 run and fought off two set points before the Musketeers took a 25-22 win.
Charlotte Moriarty and Margo Kemp each recorded four kills in the opening frame to help XU hit .289.
The second set was a defensive battle with both teams recording three blocks each as Xavier tallied 24 digs and MSU had 25 digs of their own.
Emma Grace had six kills in an error less second set, but the Eagles stole a 25-22 set two victory.
The Musketeers bounced back in the third set, hitting .367 behind four kills each from Grace and Moriarty to clinch a 25-18 win.
XU closed out the match holding the Eagles to a .152 clip in the fourth set. The final frame saw nine ties and five lead changes, but the Musketeers ended it on a 3-0 run for a 25-21 win.
Xavier improves to 10-1 win while the Eagles fall to 6-4. The Musketeers are the first BIG EAST team to reach 10 wins this season and become the quickest Xavier team in program history to 10 wins.Â

Xavier will face Morehead State again on Saturday in Cincinnati. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Cintas Center.
