Elin Hansson scores for third-straight match; Musketeers' unbeaten streak moves to four
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - No. 24 Xavier women's soccer extended its unbeaten streak to four matches with a 2-2 draw at Indiana on Thursday evening. The Musketeers moved to 3-2-1 on the year, while Indiana moved to 2-2-1.
Both offense started off slowly, with each team recording only a single shot in the first 15 minutes of the match. Indiana recorded the first two looks on frame, with the second one finding the back of the net to give IU the 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.
Xavier responded less than five minutes later after Emma Flick brought the ball up the right side, crossing to Elin Hansson in the box. Hansson shot low, with the ball bouncing past the IU goalkeeper to the left corner to tie the match. The Musketeers finished the first half with a 7-2 advantage on shots, and a 4-2 advantage on shots on frame, but the match went into halftime tied at 1-1.
The tie held into the 62nd minute, when the Musketeers moved in front, 2-1, after the ball bounced in off an IU player following a Xavier corner kick. The Hoosiers responded less than two minutes later, tying the match at 2-2 on a penalty kick.
After IU equalized, the Musketeers outshot the Hoosiers, 6-0, in the final 27 minutes, but were unable to find the go-ahead goal, setting the final score at 2-2.
Xavier returns home to host Chattanooga on Thursday, Sept. 11 at Corcoran Field. The Musketeers and the Mocs get underway at 5:00 p.m. on Xavier+.
