Messina-Moore led three Musketeers in double figures as Xavier erased 13-point deficit to lead late
MILWAUKEE - Three Musketeers hit double figures as Xavier erased a 13-point second-half deficit to lead Marquette late, but the Musketeers fell, 66-65, to the Golden Eagles on Wednesday evening at the Fiserv Forum.
Xavier dropped to 10-6 (1-4 BIG EAST) on the year, while Marquette moved to 6-10 (1-4 BIG EAST).
The Musketeers return to action on Saturday, January 10, when the Musketeer host Providence at Cintas Center. Tip off with the Friars is set for 4:00 p.m. on FS1.

Xavier dropped to 10-6 (1-4 BIG EAST) on the year, while Marquette moved to 6-10 (1-4 BIG EAST).

NOTABLES
- Marquette never trailed in the first half, with Xavier tying the game in the opening minutes before the Golden Eagles built the lead out to multiple possessions. Xavier got within two in the final four minutes thanks to a 6-0 run before MU closed the half with an 8-0 run to take a 10-point lead, its largest of the half, into the break. Malik Messina-Moore led all scores with 12 points in the first half.
- In the second half, the Golden Eagles led by many as 13, 53-40, before Xavier used a 13-3 run to pull within two, 53-55, with just under 10 minutes to play. Marquette extended the lead back out to seven in the final five minutes, but Xavier outscored the Golden Eagles 10-2 over the next two minutes to take its first lead of the game at 65-64, holding the lead going into the final minute of the game. Marquette retook the lead, 66-65, with 48 seconds to play, setting the final score.
- Malik Messina-Moore scored a season-high 22 points, connecting on four three pointers. He's hit double figures in all five BIG EAST games this season.
- Tre Carroll finished with 12 points after scoring 10 in the second half. He also grabbed six boards.
- Roddie Anderson III added 10 points for the Musketeers, hitting double figures in each of the last five games.
- Filip Borovicanin had nine points and led Xavier with seven rebounds.
- Marquette finished with a 47-34 advantage on rebounds overall, with a 19-10 advantage on the offensive glass to outscore Xavier 17-6 on second chance points.
- The Musketeers finished shooting 37.3 percent overall (22-59) after shooting 50 percent (14-28) in the second half. Xavier connected on 11 three pointers, going 6-10 from behind the arc in the second half. Marquette shot 40 percent overall (26-65) and 22.7 percent from three (5-22) after being limited to 36.7 (11-30) in the second half, connecting on just 2-10 from three.
- Xavier had a season-high 16 turnovers, while Marquette had 15 miscues. The Musketeers outscored the Golden Eagles 14-13 on points off turnovers.
- Marquette had a 38-14 advantage on points in the paint.
