Men's Basketball Opens A Two-Game Homestand On Saturday Vs. Providence

CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University Musketeers, 9-7 overall and 1-4 in the BIG EAST Conference, open a two-game homestand against the Providence College Friars, 8-7 overall and 1-3 in the BIG EAST, on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Cintas Center. Xavier is looking to bounce back from a one-point loss at Marquette on Wednesday, while PC is looking to bounce back from an overtime loss to UConn at Providence on Wednesday.
Graduate student Tre Carroll leads Xavier in scoring at 15.8 ppg., which ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. Senior Malik Messina-Moore, who averaged 6.8 ppg. (shooting 30.6 percent from the field) in the non-conference season, leads Xavier and is ranked sixth in the BIG EAST in league play at 16.0 ppg., while shooting 45.8 percent (ninth in the BIG EAST). Messina-Moore led XU with a season-high 22 points at Marquette, hitting 4-6 3-pointers, to go with a collegiate career-high five steals.
