Volleyball Defeats Seton Hall 3-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Xavier volleyball beat Seton Hall 3-1 on the road Saturday, Oct. 3. Â
The Musketeers move to 10-5 overall this season and 3-1 in the BIG EAST. Â
XU took the first set 25-18. In the frame, Xavier had 17 kills. The set started with a 5-1 run by the Musketeers which included a kill from Catherine Flaharty, an ace from Kelsey Niesen, and three consecutive kills from Ava Tilden. A service error from the Pirates began a second five point run for Xavier that Macy Hatkevich made a kill during. Seton Hall got within two points at 20-18, but XU would make two kills in addition to three Pirate errors for the set. Â
Seton Hall took the second set 26-24. The teams remained within a point of each other before Xavier extended its lead 16-13 with kills from Tilden and Charlotte Moriarty and an ace from Kasey Quenichet. An ace and two kills for Seton Hall would end the set and tie the match. Â
Xavier responded with a 10-point victory in the third set, winning 25-15. XU went up 7-4 to start, and Seton Hall would not come within four points of the Musketeers for the remainder of the set. Xavier had 15 kills and five aces in the third frame. Moriarty had back-to-back kills followed by two consecutive aces. An attack error by the Pirates brought set point and a kill from Tilden sealed the frame. Â
The Musketeers' victory was secured with a 25-23 fourth frame. Xavier managed 20 kills in the final set with Moriarty nailing the final two. Xavier and Seton Hall remained within two points of each other throughout the match, until Moriarty's final kills claimed the victory. Â

Four Musketeers had at least 10 kills with Tilden leading the team with 20. Tilden's 20 kills match her career high from the match against St. John's. The sophomore had a .485 clip for a season high. Â

Moriarty tabbed a double-double with 18 kills and 14 digs. She hit .265 in the match.Â

Quenichet had a match high three aces. Moriarty had two aces while three other Musketeers had an ace for a team total of eight. Â

Niesen had a match high 19 digs. Â

Xavier hit .321 as a team with 67 total kills.

Xavier is next set to travel to Butler for a mid-week matchup Wednesday, Oct. 7. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Â
