Xavier Falls in Game Three at ECU, Wraps Up Series with the Pirates at 2-1

Musketeers head to Louisville for midweek match up on Tuesday
Xavier moves to 2-1 on the year, while the Pirates improved to 1-2.
ECU took the 1-0 lead in the second, but the Musketeers responded in the next frame after Eddie Peters led off with a double, moved to third on a sac bunt from JD Crisp and came home on a ground ball from Luke Hammond.
The Pirates retook the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs on two hits and two errors for the 4-1 advantage.Â
The Musketeers picked up another run in the fourth on a solo home run from Peter Johnson to cut the lead to two runs. A two-run frame in the bottom of the inning for the Pirates extended the lead back to four.
The 6-2 score held into the seventh where the Pirates added three to take a seven-run lead.
Xavier got a pair back after Josh Stonehouse hit a two-run homer in the eighth, bringing in Donavan Canterberry who got aboard with a walk.
The Pirates added three more runs in the bottom of the frame to lead 12-4, and a solo home run from Eddie Peters in the ninth set the final score at 12-5.
The Musketeers return to action at Louisville on Tuesday, Feb. 17. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.

- Josh Stonehouse knocked in a pair of RBI with his first home run of the season. He finished opening weekend batting .500 with six hits and five runs scored.
- Peter Johnson went 3-of-4 at the plate in game three, driving in an RBI with a solo home run, his first of the season. He batted .429 through the weekend with six hits and three RBI.
- Eddie Peters went 2-of-4 in the series finale, hitting his first home run of the season to pick up an RBI, and scored a pair of runs
- Luke Hammond finished with an RBI.
- Jonathan Fitz recorded a hit (1-2) and got on with a pair of walks.
- JD Crisp and Donavan Canterberry each got on with a walk as well, with Canterberry coming around to score a run.
- Jack DeTienne made the start, going 3.1 innings, allowing six runs, three earned, on five hits and a walk.
- Michael Murphy entered in the fourth, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one without issuing a walk.
- Joey Young came in for the seventh inning, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk.
- Trevor Geddes entered for the final out of the seventh, getting the Musketeers out of the inning with a strikeout. He went the final 1.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk.
