Piech Collects Career-High Nine Ks in Loss at No. 8 Arkansas

Musketeers and Razorback continue series on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Ryan Piech finished with a career-best nine strikeouts, while the Xavier offense out-hit No. 8 Arkansas but the Musketeers fell to the Hogs, 5-2, in first of three games at Baum-Walker Stadium.
The Razorbacks took a 3-0 lead in the first on a three-run home run, before Piech, who made his second start of the season, retired the next 11 batters, striking out nine.
A solo home run from Josh Stonehouse in the fifth cut the Hogs lead to two, 3-1, but Arkansas picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to stretch the lead out to 5-1.
Jonathan Fitz led off the eighth with his first home run of the season to make it a three-run game, but neither team would score after that point, setting the final score at 5-2.
Game two of the series with the Razorbacks is set for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on SEC Network+.

- Josh Stonehouse went 2-5 with and RBI and a run scored after hitting his team-high third home run of the season. He also knocked in a double.
- Jonathan Fitz went 1-3 with a walk, picking up an RBI and a run on his first home run of the season.
- Luke Hammond (2-5) and Eddie Peters (2-3, 1BB) each recorded a pair of hits.
- Peter Johnson and JD Crisp each had a hit as well as the Musketeers collected nine hits to just five for the Hogs, including five for extra bases.

- Ryan Piech went 4.0 innings in the start, allowing three runs on two hits, finishing with nine strikeouts to just two walks. His nine strikeouts are a new career-high, stopping his previous career high of seven, set twice in 2025.
- Michael Murphy entered for the fifth, going 1.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits.
- Ashton Chronister pitched a career-long 3.0 scoreless innings, not allowing a hit or a walk and striking out three, matching his career-best mark.
