Tre Carroll leads Xavier with 24 points

INDIANAPOLIS - Xavier men's basketball went on a late run to make it a one-possession game, but fell 80-75, at Butler on Saturday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The Musketeers moved to 13-14 (5-11 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs improved to 15-13 (6-11 BIG EAST).

Xavier remains on the road, traveling to Providence on Tuesday, Feb. 24. The Musketeers and the Friars get underway at 7:30 p.m. on TNT + truTV.

NOTABLES

Butler hit the opening bucket and never trailed, going ahead by as many as 21 points in the first half, 45-24, before taking a 47-28 lead into the half. Tre Carroll's 11 first half points led the Musketeers.
In the second half, Xavier would put together a 9-2 run midway through to cut the Bulldog lead to single digits, 57-49. Four Musketeer three pointers, with three coming from Carroll, helped Xavier chip away at the lead, pulling the Musketeers within two in the finals minutes. Xavier was unable to get any closer, falling 80-75.
Tre Carroll matched for game-high with 24 points, hitting four threes, and scoring in double figures for a fourth-straight game. Carroll also grabbed seven rebounds and had four assists.
Malik Messina-Moore added 20 points for the Musketeers after scoring 13 in the second half, connecting on 7-of-12 from the floor.
Jovan Milicevic finished with 10 points, scoring seven after the half.
Filip Borovicanin grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds as the Musketeers were out-rebounded 35-32 overall. Each team had eight offensive boards.
Xavier shot 44.4 percent (28-62) overall and 31.3 from three (10-32), while Butler shot 47.3 (26-55) overall and 27.3 (3-11) from three. Butler outscored Xavier 44-33 on points in the paint.
The Musketeers had seven turnovers to six for the Bulldogs, with Butler holding a 6-2 advantage on points off turnovers.
