Hathaway Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

NEW YORK - Xavier lacrosse midfielder Genevieve Hathaway was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career. Senior Samantha Balara was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her first career conference nod. The duo become the first Musketeers to earn weekly honors this season.

Genevieve Hathaway scored a career-high two goals in Xavier's 13-6 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday. She scored both goals back-to-back in the final seven minutes of the second quarter to give the Musketeers a 6-3 lead at halftime. The freshman scored her first career goal on Feb. 14 against Eastern Michigan and is tied for second on the team with three goals.

Samantha Balara had a career game against Mercyhurst with a career-high four goals and two assists. The midfielder became just the fourth Musketeer in program history with at least six points in a game. Balara recorded her first hat trick this season and just the second of her career in Saturday's win.
