Musketeers Drop Road Contest at Kent State

Reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Genevieve Hathaway scored two goals.
KENT, Ohio - The Xavier lacrosse team suffered an 11-5 loss to Kent State on Tuesday afternoon to close out a three-game road stretch.Â
Genevieve Hathaway followed up her two-goal performance last Saturday that earned her BIG EAST Freshman of the Week with two more goals against the Golden Flashes.
Hathaway and Brynley Hodge have both scored in the past three straight games. Megan Droney posted a season-high three assists and has contributed at least two in every game this season.
The Musketeers fall to 1-3 while the Golden Flashes improve to 4-1 with their second-straight victory. XU is 0-2 against MAC opponents this season and will face two more in Akron and Detroit Mercy next week at home.

Lily Villaflor opened up the scoring with her second goal of the season off an assist by Samantha Balara just two minutes into the game. The Golden Flashes responded with four straight goals to take an early 4-1 lead after the first quarter.
The Musketeers scored the first goal of the second quarter as well on a man-up opportunity by Brynley Hodge taking a shot just outside of the eight-meter line. Kent State scored three straight goals in response before Genevieve Hathaway scored on another man-up opportunity with under a minute to go in the opening half, but the Flashes took a 7-3 lead into the break.
Kent State extended their lead with two more in the third despite Hathaway scoring her second of the afternoon. The Musketeers tried to cut back into the deficit with Lily Hayes scoring just over a minute into the final quarter to make it a 9-5 game, but the Flashes scored two more and shut down Xavier's offense for the rest of the game to secure the 11-5 win.

Xavier will host Akron on Sunday for the Musketeers' home opener at Corcoran Field. First draw is set for 2:00 p.m. in Cincinnati.
