CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's lacrosse team dropped a 6-5 game to Akron on Sunday afternoon in the Musketeers' first game at Corcoran Field this season.

Neither team led by more than two goals in a tightly contested match up. Both sides traded three-goal scoring streaks through the first half.

The Musketeers fall to 1-4 while Akron improves to 5-1 on the season. Xavier will continue the homestand this week, hosting Detroit Mercy on Wednesday night.

Akron opened the game with a free position goal just over a minute into the contest, but Samantha Balara tied it up for the Musketeers three minutes later.

Both teams went cold offensively for almost seven minutes until Brynley Hodge scored her first of the afternoon to give Xavier a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Xavier continued its scoring streak into the second quarter as Megan Droney netted her third of the season, taking a 3-1 lead for the Musketeers.

Akron responded with a three-goal streak of their own to head into the half with a 4-3 lead.

Samantha Balara scored her second of the afternoon two minutes into the third quarter to even up the score once again.

The Zips then scored two more goals within a minute of each other to regain their lead at 6-4.

Hodge scored her second goal of the game off an assist by Maya Graham with under five minutes to go in the third quarter.

Neither team was able to score a goal in the final quarter as Akron secured a 6-5 win at Corcoran Field.
