Xavier set for matches at Purdue, at home against Dayton this weekend

MASON, Ohio - Xavier women's tennis fell, 7-0, to Michigan on Tuesday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Xavier will play a pair of matches next weekend, traveling to West LaFayette, Ind., to face Purdue on Friday, Feb. 27 at 4:00 p.m. The Musketeers will return to the courts on Saturday, Feb.28, hosting Dayton at Camargo Racquet Club, set for a 5:00 p.m. start.

The Match

Michigan took the doubles point after taking the No. 1 court, 6-2, with the No. 34 ranked pair of Lily Jones and Jessica Bernales defeating Clara Owen and Abby Nugent, and then No. 3 court, 6-3, with the No. 68 ranked duo of Piper Charney and Emily Sartz-Lunde topping Emily Flowers and Natalie Smitek.

A 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 1 court for UM's No. 20 Lily Jones against Abby Nugent made it a 2-0 lead, and a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 2 court, with Michigan's No. 12 Piper Charney topping Madeleine Rexroat, made it a 3-0 advantage for the Wolverines.

Michigan clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win on the No. 4 court for No. 104 Emily Sartz-Lunde against Ella DeFord.

Michigan took a 7-6 (2), 6-3 win on the No. 3 court, with No. 83 Reese Miller competing against Emily Flowers, and 6-4, 7-5 win on the No. 5 court, with No. 85 Jessica Bernales defeating Clara Owen.

On the final court, Natalie Smitek fell, 6-7 (6), 6-1, 10-2, to Gabriella Lindgren to set the final score at 7-0.
