Baseball Drops Game Two with Evansville

Rubber match set for Sunday at 1 PM at Hayden Field
CINCINNATIÂ - Xavier dropped the second of three games with Evansville, 6-4, on Saturday afternoon at Hayden Field to even the series at 1-1 with the finale set for Sunday.
The Musketeers moved to 6-14 on the year, while the Purple Aces improved 4-13.
After two scoreless innings, Evansville got on the board first, scoring three in the top of the third frame, then posting another three-run frame in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.
Xavier got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, with Donavan Canterberry leading off the inning with a single, moving to second on an error and coming home on a double from Clay Burdette.
Landon Mensik led off the sixth with a walk and moved to second on a single from Peter Johnson and third on a walk from Jason Jelic. Canterberry took a bases-loaded walk to bring in Mensik, cutting Evansville's lead to 6-2. Jorge Valdes followed Canterberry's walk with a ground ball to bring in Johnson to make it 6-3.
Xavier made it four unanswered runs in the seventh with Tommy Townsend leading off with a single, moving to second after Tanner Thomas was hit by a pitch and third on a ground out from Johnson. A sac fly from Luke Hammond brought Townsend in to cut the Purple Aces' advantage to 6-4 but the Musketeers were unable to get any closer, falling by the two-run margin.
Xavier wraps up the series with the Purple Aces on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. from Hayden Field on ESPN+.
