Women's Tennis Hosts No. 35 Arizona and Cleveland State this Weekend

Musketeers take on Wildcats on Thursday at 4:30 PM, Vikings on Sunday at 1 PM
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis is back at home for a pair of matches this weekend, starting with No. 35 Arizona on Thursday, March 19, set for a 4:30 p.m. start at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The Musketeers return to the courts at the Lindner Family Tennis Center on Sunday, March 22, hosting Cleveland State, set for a 1:00 p.m. start.

ARIZONA
- The Wildcats are 10-8 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play, coming in at No. 35 in the most recent ITA Team rankings. Arizona will face Cincinnati on Thursday morning ahead of the match with Xavier.
- Arizona went 19-11 last season, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. The Wildcats fell to Illinois in the NCAA first round.
CLEVELAND STATE
- The Vikings are 3-11 on the season, with wins over St. Bonaventure, Bowling Green and Dayton. CSU will play Ashland and Mercyhurst on Thursday.
- CSU went 13-10 last season, falling in the second round of the Horizon League Championships.
- Last season's match with the Vikings was canceled. The two programs last met in 2024, a 7-0 win for the Musketeers in Cincinnati.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
- Xavier heads to Memphis next weekend for a pair of matches, starting with Denver on Friday, March 27, set for a 2:00 p.m. ET start at the University of Memphis.
- The Musketeers return to the courts at the University of Memphis on Saturday, March 28, to take on the Tigers, set for an 11:00 a.m. ET start.
WEEKLY AWARDS
- Xavier's duo of Abby Nugent and Clara Owen were named the BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
- Nugent, a senior from Springboro, Ohio, and Owen, a sophomore from Dayton, Ohio, went 2-0 in No. 1 doubles to help Xavier take the doubles point in 4-0 wins over BIG EAST opponent Creighton and Penn in Orlando on Wednesday.
- Against the Bluejays, the pair had the first decision, a 6-2 win, to help the Musketeers take the doubles point. Against the Quakers, the duo clinched the point with a 6-2 win.
- The pair have now won four straight matches and seven overall for the season. This is the pair's second honor of the season, also earning it the week of 2/9.
THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns eight players from last season's BIG EAST Championship winning squad, including senior Abby Nugent, a 2025 All-BIG EAST First Team selection, and 2025 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Madeleine Rexroat.Â
- Sophomore Clara Owen, who partnered with Nugent as one of the top doubles team in the country, returns, as well as seniors Abigail Siminski and Emily Flowers, juniors Ellie Brotherton and Sofia Mazzucato, and sophomore Natalie Smitek.
- The Musketeers added freshman Ella DeFord, a five-star recruit from Mount Pleasant, S.C., to the roster.
- Xavier finished the 2025 dual season at 14-9 and won the program's fifth-straight and sixth overall BIG EAST Championship, earning the program's sixth bid to the NCAA Championships.
