Brandon Records 200th Career Save in Loss to Marquette

Genevieve Hathaway and Haley Reeck scored two goals each in Xavier's 10-7 loss.
CINCINNATI - The Xavier lacrosse team fell to Marquette, 10-7, on Saturday afternoon at Corcoran Field. Genevieve Hathaway and Haley Reeck each contributed two goals to lead the Musketeer offense.
Senior goalkeeper Jada Brandon notched her 200th career save in the contest. She totaled 11 saves on the afternoon for a .524 save percentage and continues to rank in the NCAA top-25 for both save percentage and total saves.
The Musketeer defense combined for 10 caused turnovers compared to Marquette's eight. Xavier leads the BIG EAST in caused turnovers per game.
Xavier falls to 2-10 overall with an 0-2 BIG EAST record while Marquette improves to 7-4 and 1-1 in BIG EAST play.

Xavier opened the game with back-to-back goals from Genevieve Hathaway and Samantha Balara. Maya Graham found Hathaway wide open in front of the cage on a man-up opportunity at the 9:17 mark to open the scoring. Balara followed up four minutes later with her 21st goal of the season to give XU an early 2-0 lead.
Marquette responded with three straight goals of their own to end the first quarter with a 3-2 advantage as Xavier would not regain the lead for the rest of the game.
Gabby Bouman kicked off the second quarter with a goal at the 10:12 mark off the feed from Megan Droney to extend her scoring streak through the past three games and tie the game at 3-3. Marquette scored less than a minute later to regain their lead.
Haley Reeck scored on a free position shot with 7:12 remaining in the second quarter to tie the game once again. The Golden Eagles responded with back-to-back goals for a 6-4 advantage. Reeck scored her second of the afternoon on another free position attempt with under a minute left in the opening half to cut the deficit to 6-5 heading into the break.
MU opened the second half with three straight goals, extending their lead to 9-5 with four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Lily Hayes scored in the final minute of the third quarter off an assist from Balara, and the Musketeers entered the final quarter down 9-6.
Marquette scored at the 10:40 mark of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to four goals once again. Both teams went cold offensively across the next eight minutes until Hathaway scored her second of the afternoon with just under three minutes to go. The Musketeers took four shots on goal across the final period but were unable to surpass the Golden Eagles.
