Bouman Scores Five Goals in BIG EAST Win Over Butler

The Musketeers defeated the Bulldogs, 14-9, for their first conference win of the season.
CINCINNATI - The Xavier lacrosse team took down Butler, 14-9, for their first BIG EAST win of the 2026 season. Eight different Musketeers scored in the contest led by Gabby Bouman's career-best five goals.Â
XU dominated the draw, 17-8, behind a combination of Mya Miller's eight draw controls and Cameron Yard's seven. The Musketeers' 17 are the most in a single game this season.
Xavier's 14 goals are the most against any BIG EAST opponent in program history. The Musketeers out shot Butler, 32-15, in the contest with a .438 shot percentage.
Xavier improves to 3-10 on the season with a 1-2 BIG EAST record while Butler falls to 3-9 and 0-2 in the league.

Butler scored the opening goal less than a minute into the contest then contributed a second on a free position shot to take a 2-0 lead at the 13:33 mark of the first quarter.
Megan Droney responded with a free position goal of her own to get Xavier on the board for the first time of the night, but the Bulldogs added another in the following possession and ignited a three-goal scoring push to make it a 5-1 game.
Gabby Bouman scored her first of the night off a feed from Droney at the 2:49 mark of the opening frame and Greer Simonton followed up a minute later to cut into the deficit. Butler then scored on another free position attempt to take a 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Musketeers bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 4-0. Gabby Bouman led the Musketeer offense with three straight goals alone.
Bouman kicked off the scoring frenzy at the 10:21 mark of the second quarter with her second goal of the game off the assist by fellow Minnesota native Haley Reeck. The junior followed up three minutes later with her third score of the night dished by Maya Graham and a fourth from Samantha Balara to tie the game at 6-6.
Graham then contributed a goal of her own from the free position to give Xavier their first lead of the night as the Musketeers headed into halftime with a 7-6 advantage.
The Bulldogs ended their scoring drought just over a minute into the second half to tie the game at 7-7, but Genevieve Hathaway had a quick response on a free position goal to regain Xavier's lead.
Butler tied the game at 8-8 with a man-up goal at the 10:15 mark in the third quarter. Xavier then closed the frame on a 5-0 run.
Graham scored her second of the night off the assist from Droney and Brynley Hodge added her first of the game on a free position shot for a 10-8 lead.
Bouman scored her fourth of the night on Droney's third assist followed up by a goal from Balara. Droney then scored one of her own to head into the final quarter with a 13-8 Xavier lead.
Butler scored their final goal of the contest at the 12:21 mark in the fourth quarter on a free position attempt.
Haley Reeck added a final insurance goal for the Musketeers with 4:39 left in the game to secure a 14-9 win.
