Musketeers Post Five-Run Victory Over Huskies in Series Finale

Clay Burdette went 4-for-5 with two RBI, two runs and three extra-base hits
STORRS, Conn. - Xavier baseball took the series finale at UConn, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
The Musketeers improved to 9-20Â (1-2 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Huskies moved to 14-15 (2-1 BIG EAST).
Clay Burdette hit a solo home run in the third inning to give the Musketeers an early lead. The Musketeers made it 2-0 in the next frame on a Donavan Canterberry RBI single.
Josh Stonehouse hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, giving Xavier a 4-0 advantage. UConn responded in the next inning with one run via a Chris Cancel sacrifice fly.
Xavier added two insurance runs in the eighth inning on a RBI double from Clay Burdette and a RBI single by Jonathan Fitz.
The Musketeers held a 16-8 advantage in hits and left five more runners on base (15-10). UConn committed two errors, while the Musketeers did not have any defensive miscues.
Xavier returns to action at Ball State on Tuesday, March 31. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. with the game being aired on ESPN+.

- Xavier had 16 hits in the win, matching the team's season high in hits (also had 16 hits at Louisville on Feb. 17). The Musketeers had seven extra-base hits on Sunday (five doubles, two home runs).
- Clay Burdette went 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, two runs, two RBI and a homer. He now has a team-high nine, multi-hit games, while ranking second in multi-RBI games with five.
- Josh Stonehouse went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI and home run. He has a team-high eight home runs and six multi-RBI games. The freshman infielder also has seven, multi-hit games.
- Luke Hammond went 2-for-5 with one run and a double. He ranks second on the team in multi-hit games with seven.
- Donavan Canterberry went 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Jorge Valdes went 2-for-5.
- Carter Christenson, JD Crisp and Jonathan Fitz all added a hit.

- Ashton Chronister (1-2) threw six scoreless innings, surrendering three hits and issuing two walks. The LHP threw five strikeouts (second most strikeouts in a game this season).
- Garrett Helsel posted his third save of the season. The LHP threw two strikeouts and allowed five hits and one run in three innings of relief.
- Xavier limited UConn to only one run (matching the Huskies season low for runs scored; had one run on Feb. 28 at UNCW).
