Hodge's Hat Trick Falls Short to UConn

The Musketeers dropped a 15-6 decision to the Huskies on Senior Day.
CINCINNATI - The Xavier lacrosse team fell to UConn, 15-6, on Saturday afternoon at Corcoran Field. Sophomore Brynley Hodge scored a career-high three goals for her first career hat trick.
Gabby Bouman contributed two goals of her own while Samantha Balara added her team-leading 23rd goal of the season.
Jada Brandon totaled 12 saves, her highest mark in BIG EAST play, compared to the Huskies' nine saves.
The Musketeers fall to 3-12 and 1-4 in BIG EAST play while UConn improves to 5-8 with a 2-3 league record.

UConn opened the game with five-straight unanswered goals to take an early 5-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Both teams went cold offensively for the first 10 minutes of the second period until UConn scored their sixth of the afternoon.
Gabby Bouman put the Musketeers on the board for the first time at the 2:19 mark of the second quarter off an assist from Megan Droney.
The Huskies had a quick response to make it a 7-1 game in their favor, but Brynley Hodge scored on a free position shot with a minute remaining in the half to make it a 7-2 game at the break.
UConn scored two straight goals to open the third quarter before Samantha Balara found the back of the net at the 9:40 mark to cut into the Huskies lead.
The Huskies then scored twice more to head into the final quarter with an 11-3 lead.
UConn opened the fourth quarter with another goal to make it a nine-goal game and their largest lead of the afternoon.
Bouman scored her second of the game from another feed by Droney, but UConn had another answer.
Hodge found the back of the net for the second time with a long shot just outside the 8-meter line.
The Huskies scored at the 4:20 mark to extend their lead to nine once again, but Hodge ripped another goal from the 8-meter line assisted by Bouman.
UConn added a final insurance goal with 22 seconds left in the game to secure their 15-6 victory.
