Musketeers Top Wildcats on Sunday, Sweep Weekend Series

Xavier defeated Villanova, 9-6, at Hayden Field
The Musketeers moved to 16-21 (6-3 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Wildcats dropped to 11-20 (0-6 BIG EAST). Xavier has won four straight games and eight of their last nine contests.
Josh Stonehouse gave the Musketeers an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, hitting a solo home run to left field. The Wildcats responded with a solo home run by Larry Hotali in the top of the next frame, tying the game at 1-1.
Xavier took an 8-1 advantage in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs on five hits. The Musketeers added an insurance run in the eighth inning on an infield single by Clay Burdette.
Villanvoa battled back to score five runs on three hits and one error in the top of the ninth inning to close within three runs. Karter Muck was able to get Mark Giallus to fly out to center field on the final play of the game, sealing the series sweep.
Villanova had one more hit (11-10) than Xavier and left four more runners on base (10-6). Both teams committed one error.
Xavier returns to action at Cincinnati on Tuesday, April 14. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. from UC Baseball Stadium with the game being aired on ESPN+.

- Josh Stonehouse went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI and a homer. The freshman slugger finished the series with a .385 batting average (5-for-13) with five RBI and five runs. He now has a team-leading 12 home runs this season.
- Clay Burdette went 2-for-5 with a double and a run. The outfielder hit .500 (6-for-12) in the series with six runs, four multi-base hits and two RBI.
- Jonathan Fitz went 1-for-3 with a run. Peter Johnson went 1-for-3 with two RBI, a double and a run.
- Luke Hammond went 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI. The infielder finished the series with a .462 batting average (6-for-13) with four RBI and three runs.
- Carter Christenson went 1-for-3 with two RBI, a double and a run scored.
- Xavier had five extra-base hits in the game (four doubles, one home run).
- Ashton Chronister made the start, going 5.1 innings. The LHP threw four strikeouts and allowed six hits and one run.
- Garrett Helsel (3-1) picked up the win in 1.2 scoreless innings of work. He threw one strikeout and allowed one hit.
- Joesph Arend allowed one hit in one scoreless inning of relief.
- Sam Hoeft surrendered five runs (four earned) and three hits in 0.2 innings of relief.
- Jack DeTienne faced two batters and issued one walk.
- Karter Muck posted his third save of the season. The RHP saw one batter who flied out to center field to end the game.
