Musketeers head to New Jersey to face Seton Hall in three-game series this weekend
The Musketeers moved to 16-22 on the season, while the Bearcats moved to 25-14 overall. The loss snapped XU's four-game win streak vs. Cincinnati.
Cincinnati took a 4-0 lead in the first, an added a run in the second to take a 5-0 lead into the fourth. The Musketeers scored four in the fourth, with Clay Burdette getting aboard after being hit by a pitch and Josh Stonehouse getting on with a single. Jonathan Fitz cleared the bases with a three-run home run to get the Musketeers on the board. Peter Johnson and Carter Christenson both got on with a walk and moved into scoring position on a bunt from JD Crisp. Johnson came home on a wild pitch to pull Xavier within one, 5-4.
Bearcat runs in the fourth and fifth extended the lead back out to four, 8-4, and a six-run sixth frame for UC extended the lead to 10, 14-4.
A single for Jorge Valdes and a walk for Burdette put two on for Fitz, who brought in Valdes with a single to cut the lead back to nine, but UC led off the bottom of the frame with a solo home run to put the Bearcats up 10, 15-5, ending the game on a run rule.
Xavier heads to South Orange, N.J. this weekend for a three-game series with Seton Hall, set to get underway on Friday, April 17, and continue through Sunday, April 19.
